Drones

Drones offers a quirky blend of fantasy, humor and romance with a message that gives the story purpose beyond its comic situations. Its pacing and occasional repetition prevent the screenplay from reaching its full potential. However, the second half brings greater focus to the mystery, while the performances help sustain audience interest.

By the end he has a family entertainer that mostly holds together, with none of the gore or explicitness a horror-comedy can easily slide into. That climb out of the hole works because the film plays fair with its deliberately ridiculous logic, and a few throwaway gags end up mattering to the plot.

The film could have been better, there's no doubt about that.

With its bizarre premise and a handful of promising ideas, Drones could have been an entertaining horror comedy. Instead, the film struggles to make sense of its own universe, offering a tedious blend of unconvincing scares, half-baked science fiction, and humour that rarely lands.
