Meesaya Murukku 2

Meesaya Murukku 2

2026 · Cinema Express

Meesaya Murukku 2 deserves plaudits for speaking up for artists without a background and pointing out how the independent scene is becoming increasingly corporatised, defeating its very purpose. But it forces this conflict into a simplistic hero-villain template, pitting Carnatic music against Gaana and Hiphop, as though the latter are merely contemporary alternatives to an older tradition, rather than musical forms with their own histories, traditions and evolving identities.

Sigma

Sigma

2026 · Cinema Express

Sigma is a curious amalgamation of everything and nothing. Yet, for all its elaborate plotting and big action set-pieces, Jason Sanjay's directorial debut rarely settles on what kind of film it wants to be. The film is a classic case of how ideas can only take a film so far.

Other Mommy

Other Mommy

2026 · Cinema Express

Pretty much like its theme, Other Mommy is highly imperfect as it pulls itself in too many directions, attempting to look profound and also be a pulpy horror. The film is not an excellent horror, but you can't hate it for its imperfections either.

Mandaadi

Mandaadi

2026 · Cinema Express

With powerful performances, emotional exchanges and cultural documentation, the film renews the bond between the sea and the fishers, with the rest making the narrative slips negligible. That's the biggest trophy Mandaadi wins.

Anbe Diana

Anbe Diana

2026 · Cinema Express · Jul 2026

The film is at once familiar, flawed and pleasantly fuzzy, embracing a fairytale-like optimism even when its characterisations and screenplay falter
