• The film moves very fast, zipping from one set piece to another, making sure no kid watching loses interest. But that sometimes works against the film because we don’t learn about the characters well enough to care about them. That is of course a problem that adults would have and the target audience of the film – children would simply sit back and giggle over the string of goofy things that occur in the film.

Keep your expectations low and you’ll find yourselves enjoying this one.

  • There’s hope for everyone in this world if they are daring enough to search it out themselves. It’s basically a people story presented in animal form with a solid stream of comedy and songs interspersing the narrative –thus allowing for fairly vigorous entertainment!

John Cena is a good choice to play Ferdinand. He steers nimbly around the jokes about a bull’s weight, size, and most hilariously, that one, about being a bull in a china shop.

Ferdinand is a fun film that doesn’t just put a smile on your face, it also has a message — you don’t have to do things just because others expect you to. Go on, take your kids for this one — you certainly won’t get bored.

Visually, the film is attractive and pulsating with colours and action. The 3D animation is picture perfect. The viewing experience is elevated because of the soundtrack which includes three original songs.

Ferdinand may not measure up to the standards set by such recent animated blockbusters as Inside Out or Coco. Still, the beloved bedtime story provides sufficient entertainment for the young at heart.
