Still, it’s hard to tell how Miruthan will go down. For predominantly Tamil audiences who haven’t really seen such a flick before, Miruthan might still just be a mild curiosity with a potential to spark greater interest in the genre.

But the half-baked script, ordinary VFX and inept execution make director Shakti Soundar’s Miruthan a tedious watch.

Even though the execution is off, the haunting song that Imman provides for this moment, Mirutha Mirutha, hits us hard, and makes us care for the lead pair.

When their town is invaded by zombies, the residents seem to be quite calm and collected, except for occasional screaming. The movie is quite tiring by the end.The zombies of Hollywood will do a far better job of entertaining you than Miruthan.

Miruthan is certainly a commendable effort at introducing a genre to the Tamil audience. Watch this film if you have loved zombie films in the past, and if you’re a fan of Jayam Ravi. A sweet twist awaits you during the climax. Watch out for it.

In the end, it is a very good maiden effort in Kollywood and even in India to make a zombie film. So, please don’t compare with Hollywood and go with an open mind and you will enjoy the experience.

That’s native, organic humour, but there isn’t a lot of that in Miruthan, which suffers from the same malady that afflict many bad Tamil films: needless, forced melodrama, and a distinct lack of subtlety. I think it’s safe to say that we still don’t have our first zombie film.

For audiences who have not seen Hollywood zombie films, Miruthan would be a new experience. And kudos definitely to Shakthi Sounder Rajan for attempting something different from the usual themes that Tamil cinema is known to churn out film after film.Verdict: A new attempt in Tamil cinema that has its share of thrills...
