Pathu Thala

STR and Gautham Karthik elevate this fairly-engaging gangster film. Pathu Thala may not be a great film for those who have watched the original, but it's still a decent watch.

Director Obeli N Krishna's Pathu Thala is a mediocre remake that takes a formulaic route, ticking every box of a gangster drama checklist yet failing to excite. The screenplay is a huge letdown, and since the story is predictable, the audience are not surprised.

Silambarasan is the only redeeming feature of the film, directed by Obeli N Krishna.

Director Obeli N Krishna fails to pull together a cohesive story. Even AR Rahman's music does not elevate this film which cannot boast of a single memorable song.

Pathu Thala still works to a large extent because of Silambarasan, who leaves maximum impact in the limited screen time he gets.

The screenplay of Pathu Thala is woven tight — more than the source material — but there are too many issues in how this film is paced. None of the characters manages to create an impact, and everything feels rushed. This remake is a good case study of how it isn't enough to infuse more novelty on paper if the same doesn't translate to the screen.
