Who would have thought that Liam Neeson will become an action hero of this mould in this phase of his career? The 62 year old may not have the six packs and the built of someone who can beat a dozen guys to pulp yet, post Taken (2008) most of his action films have made to the ‘entertaining’ grade and Run All Night is no different.

Run All Night is part Taken, part A Walk Among The Tombstones, and total fun. Stylish, thrilling and satisfying, it is Liam Neeson’s best action film in some time.

Tense from start to end, Run All Night reveals the seamy underbelly of a city in a telling example of familial reconciliation in the absence of faith and grace.

  • The film could have been entertaining had the filmmakers not treated the subject matter with such seriousness and just embraced the ludicrousness of the whole thing. It’s what the Jason Statham ‘Crank’ movies did and they’re far more interesting than Neeson’s recent output, including this one.

The destination is clear from a distance but running along Neeson is not a waste of time.

You’d be lying if you said that you are sick of watching Liam Neeson in another action movie. The actor has given freely to the genre, and it has definitely returned the favor. Neeson is at his absolute best in this film, and with Ed Harris in tow, he manages to hit all the right notes. Apart from slight distractions, Run All Night is a decent edge-of-the-seat entertainer and is worth your time and money.

  • We’ve seen Neeson play a tough-as-nails retired cop/hitman/special forces person who rescues various members of his family/public, who also finds his own redemption in the process, for a while now. But somehow, he manages to rock this role every single time, giving action heroes half his age a run for their money. It’s like he’s perfected it down to an art. Albeit an ageing ass-kicker, the Irishman clearly still has what it takes.
