The Divergent Series: Allegiant Reviews

If you have seen the previous Divergent series, then it is a good watch. I do hope that the final instalment Ascendant (2017) will be better and more intricate. For now, Allegiant seems too convoluted and forcefully sliced out of the final book to make just another sequel. It has its good moments and a lot of on-screen glamour and style, but you might be disappointed a little.

...while the underlying concept of the series is the examination of a big social experiment, this gets lost in the film. Extremely lackluster fare, overall.

The Divergent franchise started out with promise a couple of years ago but now it's merely fumbling around in dystopia for a unique sci-fi footing. 'The Hunger Games' experience is probably hard to beat but this series appears to have lost steam after that first salvo. 'Allegiant' may still be a popular outing for the young set but I don't think it will make for a distinctive or memorable one!

The newly approached narrative definitely makes the story more interesting than the original. However, the lack of direction subdues the impact the movie could have had on non-Divergent fans. For those who liked the book, the movie is an equally good watch.

The promise of the premise has long been lost. But we must endure the finale before we can give the franchise a proper burial.
