Komal Nahta's Film Reviews
-
On the whole, Bodyguard had the germs to become a super-hit fare but it remains a good fare mainly because its script looks contrived and too convenient at places. All the same, it will prove to be a box-office hit because of several extraneous factors going in its favour – Salman Khan riding the wave of popularity, its release on the festive occasion of Eid and the public’s hunger for larger than life star-studded entertainment as there has been no such real entertainer since five weeks, which has resulted in an earth-shattering opening.
-
On the whole, Shabri is too routine to make its mark. Also given that there is no known male lead in the film, it will go largely unnoticed. Lack of promotion will only add to its tale of woes.
-
On the whole, Not A Love Story has limited appeal. It is more for the classes, that too in the big cities, than for the masses. It has curiosity value more than entertainment value and although its biggest plus point is its limited budget, it lacks the merits to score at the box-office.
-
On the whole, Chala Mussaddi Office Office is a dull fare and will not be able to repeat its television success. In fact, it will find the going at the box-office tough.
-
On the whole, Bubble Gum may be a well-meaning and well-made film but if it still goes largely unnoticed, it will be because of lack of face value and lack of entertainment value.
-
Cent percent, watch it! And if you want to double your enjoyment, watch it with a big group of friends and family.

On the whole, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is a film for the multiplexes, the city-based audiences and the youngsters. However, it doesn’t have much for the masses, the single-screen cinema audiences and for the public in small centres. Considering its high price, it will not be able to make profits even though the youth and the city audiences will give it the thumbs up.

On the whole, ‘Chillar Party’ will be liked mainly by pet lovers. Average in merits, it will find the going at the box-office tough and not just because it lacks face value and has been sandwiched between big and star-cast films and will continue to face the onslaught of big releases.
-
On the whole, Murder 2 will definitely do above-average business, thanks to the popularity of brand ‘Murder’ and, therefore, the bumper initial value. It doesn’t have too much to offer in terms of entertainment as it is a dark film but its plus points are the abundant sex scenes and the good music. Its reasonable budget on the one hand, and wonderful recovery from sale of its satellite, music and worldwide theatrical rights on the other have ensured that the producers have made a handsome profit before release. The all-world distributor (Ponty Chadha) and the distributors to whom they’ve sold the individual territorial rights will also make good profits.

On the whole, Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap is not entertaining enough to hold sway over the audiences in the cinema halls. A medium-budgeted film, it has covered a sizeable part of its cost from the sale of satellite rights and should, therefore, not find it problematic to cover its cost and sail safe. But it won’t get the love of the public to make it a richly rewarding film. Loyal Amitabh Bachchan fans will be thrilled to watch their idol do all the stuff – dance, fight, act, laugh, cry.
