After a series of bomb blasts in Mumbai, ACP Karan Malhotra announces that he will bring in the culprits responsible within a very short period of time as well attempts to convince his college sweetheart, Tanya P. Nath, to marry him. He then sets about interrogating several suspects so much so that an underworld gangster, Kabir, is compelled to hire an assassin to do away with him. The potential killer, Viju, is an uptight older ex-convict as well as a former gangster, who now runs a pub in Paris, and is willing to kill Karan. As he sets about this gruesome task, he comes across an old flame, Kamini, as well as his estranged wife, Sita - and it is these encounters that may well be the turning point in this life that may convince him to leave the bombs and Bandooks behind and spend the rest of his life praying and watching the Bhakti Channel.

Critic Consensus

Critical reception for Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap is sharply divided, with opinion largely hinging on one's affinity for Amitabh Bachchan. Admirers of the star praised his energy, screen presence, and dialogue delivery, with several critics explicitly recommending the film to his fans on the strength of his performance alone. Detractors, however, found the film itself lazy, thin on substance, and poorly constructed around its star, with critics noting superfluous plotting, stilted action, and a failure to capitalise on Bachchan's stature beyond surface-level nostalgia.

"There's a cop, an ex-wife, a groupie, assorted mafioso, the cop's girl, a nosy landlady, a bizarrely brutal father, yadda yadda yadda. It's all utterly unnecessary, except to give the viewer a mild respite from Bachchan-gazing."

"Way to go Mr Bachchan. We always maintained you were the best. Of course, the film has its loose and superfluous moments, but those are easily ignored."

"If 'Bbuddah' proves something, it is that there has never been star-actor to fill the Bachchan shaped hole his getting silver has caused. No one delivers dialogue (never just lines, okay?) with such impeccable timing as he does; and as to romance, well, just look at him look at Hema. Yearning went out of style, when Amitabh Bachchan stopped lovin' and leavin'."

"It's an inoffensive but lazy film that barely scratches the surface of this big, bright shining star."

"BHTB is a chance for Amitabh Bachchan to prove to the younger generation how he did it once and, also how he can still do it again."

"BBUDDAH is purely for Amitabh Bachchan fans. A standing ovation for Amitabh Bachchan for a towering performance yet again. This man is magical! He once again proves age is no bar if a person is willing to do something. Bachchan's dynamism, his indomitable spirit and energy levels, make BBUDDAH an interesting fare."

"On the whole, BBUDDAH HOGA TERRA BAAP is a must-watch for Bachchan fans. Even if you're not a fan of this iconic actor, watch it for a simple reason: They don't make them like Amitabh Bachchan anymore. A masala entertainer all the way, BBUDDAH HOGA TERRA BAAP may get affected by the omnipotent and unstoppable DELHI BELLY and TRANSFORMERS wave on Friday [although single screens would perform better than plexes], but the business should multiply on Saturday and Sunday due to Bachchan's bravura act and rock-solid post-interval portions. The producers [A.B. Corp, Viacom18] have already recovered the cost of production by selling the Satellite rights for a hefty sum and recovering the balance amount [P&A] from theatrical business should be a cakewalk, ensuring good profits to the investors in the final tally."

"You decide which part of the duniya you're part of. We love the angry young man of the 70s and 80s. Bachchan saab, aaj khush toh bahut hoge tum, but this angry, wanna-be buddah does not make us feel the same."

"The hero but looks a bit of a mutant doing action on photo stills, besides other similar silliness."

"On the whole, Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap is not entertaining enough to hold sway over the audiences in the cinema halls. A medium-budgeted film, it has covered a sizeable part of its cost from the sale of satellite rights and should, therefore, not find it problematic to cover its cost and sail safe. But it won't get the love of the public to make it a richly rewarding film. Loyal Amitabh Bachchan fans will be thrilled to watch their idol do all the stuff – dance, fight, act, laugh, cry."
