…an indulgent affair that breaks down the boundaries of regular thriller. Mohit Suri has raised the bar with this film that is captivatingly shot and crisply edited. At 2 hours, 7 minutes, the film benefits from the inspired lucidity in writing and dialogues. But mostly, it is the unpredictable skin Sidharth and Riteish don in this film that pulls the carpet from under your feet. Their phenomenal performances remain the movie’s most enticing bit and the reason why I am going to watch this once again. Going with a 4/5, this is one heady film with the desired punch.

Nitin Kakkar’s Filmistaan is a crackling movie to the core that doesn’t give you one dull moment in its lambent tapestry. Sharib Hashmi is precocious for a debutant and along with Innam’s adept performance, the duo deliver a effulgent film. I, for one, didn’t get enough of the film and can’t wait to pay the price and watch it again.

Citylights might have its flaws but is overall a film that must be watched. A befitting commentary on social exploitation, the film’s humane touch and the expressive treatment catapults it to a different league. But mostly I find it hard to not sing praises of Raj Kumar Rao whose superlative work gives the film it’s mettle. I ordinarily was going to go with a 3 but for Raj Kumar’s brilliance I am giving this one a 3.5/5. Industry has found an heir to Irrfan Khan and when it comes from a fan, understand that he is a keeper.

Mastram brings out the Indian thinking process in its most unadulterated form, by introducing a character who would rather be a flop writer telling domesticated stories over being a successful writer writing erotica. It is not his dual life, stuck between divine and profane that forms the focus but the story’s inherent ability to convey so simply India’s most lamentable and gruesome mentality of turning a deaf ear towards: Sex. This is not for the prurient. Others must not miss it.

Hawaa Hawaai runs the risk of being compared to Gupte’s previous works but as a standalone it is without doubt one of the most brilliant works of recent times. Subtle and empowering with delectable performances of Saqib & Partho adding power to the film, here’s one ultimately satisfying movie that will win you over with its bittersweet and spirited work. I am going with a 3.5/5 recommending that you don’t miss this one.

The last time most Spiderman loyalists weren’t quite pleased with Webb’s work. But this time Webb has done his best at upping his standard by adding a dash of heightened drama along with a sufficient dosage of light hearted decadent enjoyment to savor. For plusses, Emma Stone & Andrew Garfield quite do the magic but don’t miss the electricity that keep the spark afresh all through. I am going with a 3/5 and recommend that you go armed well from the candybar.

Revolver Rani is a better than good film that is pulled back due to its hassle some screenplay and craggy editing. The film could have been way more meritorious with heightened drama and better action but suffering from the known second hour plague, the film loses focus squandering its potential in thin air. Kangana Ranaut however, doesn’t allow the film to waste away. Her enigma alone makes it quite an irresistible and scrummy watch.

2 states is barely unwatchable but misses the magic of Chetan Bhagat’s novel. As a stand alone, it is endearingly done with Alia and Arjun’s scorching chemistry coming off as adorable. Despite a half baked soul, this movie is worth the price of your popcorn. The Bhagat fan in me is disappointed but the cinegoer isn’t.

Bhoothnath Returns is lightyears ahead of its first part. Told like a socio-political satire in the first half, it suffers when the humor runs out leaving behind an overdramatic climax. For the intelligent story and the umpteenth laughs of the first hour and mostly Parth & Big B’s impervious chemistry, the film deserves a watch. Could have been octaves ahead but doesn’t soar adequately.

Main Tero Hero transports you into a world of fun that we have been kept devoid of from weeks. Quick witted, jocular and pricelessly silly, this film is a sure shot must watch. Leading constantly somber lives extracts the vibrancy out of us and after a long time here’s a film that will rescue you from the regular pains by offering 120 minutes flat of persistent guffawing. Varun Dhawan’s Govinda act is one rollicking show. I am going with a 3/5 and recommend that you definitely watch abandon all your troubles and have a blast at the movies this well. Thumbs up!
