Delivery Man, actually a remake of Scott’s successful French-Canadian film Starbuck, plays it straight, stolid, sentimental and sanctimonious, to middlingly satisfactory but highly expected results.

Based on 2011’s movie, Starbuck, this is Vaughn’s vehicle all the way. All said and done, the movie has its heart in the right place.

Delivery Man’s biggest grouse is its desperation to please all. The saccharine sweet flavour of the script gets a bit too much particularly in the second half. Also the logic of fathering 533 kids half of which come back to haunt him seems improbable. There are several such WTF moments in the film that prevent it from being believable.

While the Indian audience has seen “Vicky Donor”, which was inspired by Ken Scott’s French-Canadian production called “Starbuck”, “Delivery Man” is a blatantly brazen Hollywood version of the same film by the same director. After a stage, the narrative gets predictable. This is very evident when David plays guardian angel to his grown up children. Also, there are no major dramatic moments in the plot. Hence, the inciting moments just slip by as ordinary and ineffective.

On the whole, this is a one-time watch movie. Humour is present in bits. You just get a chuckle or two, in fact. There are a few touching moments. But nothing that reaches in. The emotion doesn’t leave the screen. A movie where token parts are performed, not lived. Delivery Man is a movie where you are left wanting more at the end of it.
