Siddharth Anand's Fighter soars high on the entertainment quotient. Fighter is a big-screen spectacle. When those birds soar high in the air, there is nothing that can take your eyes off the screen. But if you give into Mehta's storytelling and let Siras charm you with his innocence then Aligarh will become an instant favourite. A film about human divinity and rights about anything else, Aligarh is high on my recommendation list.

Badmaash Company
2010 · Mid Day · May 2015
Bunty Aur Babli for dummies! I am sure that's what the hard bound script of Badmaash Company must have read. Throughout the film, Shahid keeps crossing his fingers each time he wants something really bad. I did the same, hoping the movie works; sadly I just ended up with a bad sprain!

Gulaab Gang

The film has a seen-that feel. Haven't there been enough films about rape, corruption, poverty and drama with villains, cops and politicians. Except that this time, it is a woman unleashing the hell and another women slicing and dicing the culprits. The song and dance in a film like this, was it really necessary? It could have become a memorable film like Mirchi and Mrityudand but in trying to be commercial, the film loses it's flavour.

Watch it if you want to see a different take on modern day romance. Hasee Toh Phasee is worth a watch for a solid act put together by its lead pair.

12 Years a Slave
2014 · DNA · Jan 2014
It isn't sitting through the physical and verbal abuse scenes, but these are important in the story line. McQueen is superb in his handling of the subject and shows the finesse of someone who understands the deep subtexts of the issue at hand. Despite the dramatic moments and some disturbing scenes, there is an undercurrent of faith and hope running throughout the film. Ejiofor deserves a standing ovation for his performance as each time he says a prayer or hopes the morning will light bring a different morning, we too hope and pray with him.

I, Frankenstein
2014 · DNA · Jan 2014
There is a certain lethargy that sets in early on in the film. You can predict the entire plot 10 minutes into the opening scene. Also Frankenstein has always been someone with a deep dark brooding sense of humor that is missing here. The fight sequences and big moments seem heavily inspired and borrowed from recent super hero flicks. Trying to hard to fit into either the horror or thriller genre the film fails on retaining our interest as we drag ourselves into a tedious second half.

One By Two
2014 · DNA · Jan 2014
The film takes too long to set sailing. First half has very little substance and most of the scenes look like fillers put together to battle the reel length. Preeti Desai is easy on the eyes but fails in staying true to her character. She plays a dancer who competes in a TV show, but her lack of dancing skills is something that kills any little chance of us being interested in her character.

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom
2014 · DNA · Jan 2014

The Wolf of Wall Street
2014 · DNA · Jan 2014
Watch it for the deadly Scorsese-Leonardo combination that creates magic each time these two team up. The Wolf of Wall Street is a good three hours spent at the theatre.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
2014 · DNA · Jan 2014
Visually brilliant, the film fails and turns out to be complex and heavy at times when all it needs to do is actually lighten up and have some fun!

Mr Joe B. Carvalho
2014 · DNA · Jan 2014
With very little entertainment offered at the price of its ticket, Mr Joe B Carvalho is a feeble attempt that fails to provide any comic relief.

Mahabharat 3D
2013 · DNA · Dec 2013
The only saving grace is the sincerity with which the cast has dubbed for their parts. Bachchan sounds like Bheeshma while Vidya does a commedable Draupadi. Despite the big names associated with Mahabharat 3D the film turns out to be a no show in its effort to entertain the audience.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2
2013 · DNA · Dec 2013
Delicious in parts, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is definitely worth a watch.

Ship of Theseus
2013 · DNA · Dec 2013
SOT is a film that challenges your existing beliefs about everything – religion, the food you eat, the water you drink, your relationship with parents, friends, it subconsciously lets loose a series of stream of thoughts that run through your mind. Anand Gandhi scores in making each of these characters seem real. Nothing seems rehearsed, scripted or gimmicky.

B.A. Pass
2013 · DNA · Dec 2013
The film also stays away from being preachy, trying to give a message or play the holier than thou card. Instead it digs deep into the subject and fleshes out different emotions and facets of this lust story.

Bombay Talkies
2013 · DNA · Dec 2013
Bombay Talkies is a format that needs to be praised for its concept. The sequencing of the stories works and the pace is swift, never showing signs of lethargy. If this was a tribute to 100 years of cinema, then we need to have an array of directors from different genres pay such homages more often.

Frozen
2013 · DNA · Nov 2013
Imagine the visuals of Tangled meeting the music of The Lion King. Disney returns to top form with Frozen an enchanting tale of magic, sisterhood and mystery set against the icy backdrop of a Nordic kingdom. There is a lovely pace to the story line and an old school vibe to the narrative that has been missing in animation films for a while.

Delivery Man
2013 · DNA · Nov 2013
Delivery Man's biggest grouse is its desperation to please all. The saccharine sweet flavour of the script gets a bit too much particularly in the second half. Also the logic of fathering 533 kids half of which come back to haunt him seems improbable. There are several such WTF moments in the film that prevent it from being believable.

Singh Saab the Great
2013 · DNA · Nov 2013
Strictly for Sunny Deol fans, Singh Saab tries to recreate the glory days of this actor-director duo but doesn't succeed beyond a point.

Last Vegas
2013 · DNA · Nov 2013
Last Vegas has some genuinely funny moments. Watch it if you ever wanted to see Morgan Freeman and Michael Douglas in the same frame behaving like frat boys.

Rajjo
2013 · DNA · Nov 2013
Rajjo is a futile exercise in trying to titillate the masses or win over the classes with a strong narrative.

Insidious: Chapter 2
2013 · DNA · Nov 2013
With no new tricks to impress us with, Insidious: Chapter 2 isn't as scary as its previous effort.

Satya 2
2013 · DNA · Nov 2013
...might have an interesting premise, but the execution and poor casting kills any chance of the film coming off as a decent entertainer.

Free Birds
2013 · DNA · Nov 2013
Strictly for kids, Free Birds lacks the wit or technical brilliance of other films of its genre.

Thor: The Dark World
2013 · DNA · Nov 2013
Thor rises to the occasion, he flies, but doesn't quite soar! Fans won't be disappointed though.

Mickey Virus will appeal to Manish Paul fans who want to see him in a different role other than a TV show host.

Boss
2013 · DNA · Oct 2013
A complete paisa vasool experience at the movies, Boss is an overdue treat for Akshay Kumar fans who have been waiting for him to return to his forte. A true mainstream entertainer in every sense, this Boss does pack a solid punch!

War Chhod Na Yaar
2013 · DNA · Oct 2013
An earnest attempt, the film fails to sustain our interest in a weak second half.

Gravity
2013 · DNA · Oct 2013
Gravity sets a new bench mark in film making. One step ahead of James Cameron's Avatar, it breaks new ground not just visually but also in terms of storytelling. Watch it in 3D and be mind blown!

Diana
2013 · DNA · Oct 2013
A huge royal mess, Diana is easily one of the worst biographical work brought alive on the big screen. Diana's private life has ample fodder to make a Sidney Sheldon book set, but a film based on her life neither engages us on a cerebral level, nor titillates with shades of gossip! Instead it becomes a sort of parody demeaning and mutilating every little memory we have of one of the 'princess of hearts'.

Elysium
2013 · DNA · Sep 2013
Elysium is a big gun that aims and fires but misses its target by a mile.

Prisoners
2013 · DNA · Sep 2013

2013 · DNA · Sep 2013

Engaging in fleeting moments, Horror Story might appeal to those who get scared easily.

Zanjeer
2013 · DNA · Sep 2013

Shuddh Desi Romance
2013 · DNA · Sep 2013
Refreshing, light, breezy and engaging, SDR will appeal to those who want a realistic take on love and is miles away from the usual patented formula.

2013 · DNA · Sep 2013
If offensive, crude, adult humour tickles your funny bone then this is the ticket to buy!

The Frozen Ground
2013 · DNA · Sep 2013
Despite the fact that you know the end, the beauty lies in the way Walker opens up the cards at the right time. John Cusack plays the part perfectly, and Nicolas Cage impresses in his role as the investigating officer. The film stays true to its genre and delivers on every front.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters
2013 · DNA · Aug 2013
If you are a fan of the books, then curiosity might tempt you to check this out, otherwise go revisit the Harry Potter series!

Kick-Ass 2
2013 · DNA · Aug 2013
After a while the stunts and the action feels too routine leaving very little to no space for surprise. Even Jim Carrey's extended cameo seems uninspired. The portions with Moretz seem the best with the supporting characters pushed to the periphery.

Jobs
2013 · DNA · Aug 2013
Jobs feels like a dinner date where the person picks up your tab and leaves before you get through the soup! We wish there was more candour and less trickery in this biopic.

The Smurfs 2
2013 · DNA · Aug 2013
Strictly for the kids, Smurfs 2 is average fare that is entertaining on a very basic level.

The Conjuring
2013 · DNA · Aug 2013
Easily one of the scariest horror films to come out in the recent past, The Conjuring is smartly written, tightly edited and brilliantly executed. Be ready to get your daylights spooked out!

Zambezia
2012 · DNA · Aug 2013
Predictability seeps in early on in the film. There is nothing that is new or hasn't been done before. In an age where every animation film breaks a new ground, Zambezia looks a bit old and dated.

Chor Chor Super Chor
2013 · DNA · Aug 2013
With some more enthusiasm and zest the film would have had a better impact. Watch it for the performances and some funny gags.

Nasha
2013 · DNA · Jul 2013
Nasha should have been titled Sazaa as it neither titillates nor pushes the envelope in storytelling or execution. Don't fall for this one!

Issaq
2013 · DNA · Jul 2013
Issaq will challenge your patience and drown you in your own misery!

Pacific Rim
2013 · DNA · Jul 2013
Load yourself with ample popcorn, get comfy and marvel at Del Toro's ground breaking VFX as Pacific Rim sets a new benchmark in film making.

Despicable Me 2
2013 · DNA · Jul 2013
Unlike other sequels which try to make the franchise into a money making enterprise, this one actually has a damn good story to tell.

Raanjhanaa
2013 · DNA India · Jun 2013
Raanjhanaa has a fantastic first half. Watch it for Dhanush and Sonam's performances and some colourful one-liners and dialogues.

Enemmy
2013 · DNA India · Jun 2013
Instead of using numerology, if the makers have hired better writers, this Enemmy would be a different story.

Monsters University
2013 · DNA India · Jun 2013
Monsters University isn't downright avoidable, but it is a sore thumb that sticks out in an otherwise illustrious catalogue.

Man of Steel
2013 · DNA India · Jun 2013
Watch it closely and you would be in for a few treats if you know the supporting characters well. MOS won't dissapoint, it gives you the right bang for you buck, but we wish this Superman soared a bit higher.

Ankur Arora Murder Case
2013 · DNA · Jun 2013
Performances are consistent with most of the cast going out of the way to try and deliver more than expected. The film engages you in the beginning but loses steam because of a its weak execution.

Fukrey
2013 · DNA · Jun 2013
Fukrey works in parts and some of them are really funny, but overall it feels like an exercise in wanting to be a little bit of everything. It sounds like Delhi Belly, looks like Oye Lucky Lucky Oye and somewhere in between struggles to make its own identity.

After Earth
2013 · DNA · Jun 2013
The background score and cinematography are impressive but dialogues are cringe-worthy and sound like rejected drafts from a Paul Coelho book. After Earth looks like a Smith family portrait that's gone horribly wrong.

The Hangover Part III
2013 · DNA · Jun 2013
Like a stand up act that falls flat if the jokes are rehashed over a period of time, the film too seems to have overstayed its fame time and got into a rut.

Fast & Furious 6
2013 · DNA · Jun 2013
There is a proportionality between the size of Vin Diesel's biceps and the number of car chases in Fast & Furious 6. As the films gets older, the characters get bulkier and the story line thinner

Now You See Me
2013 · DNA · Jun 2013
There is something about a right ensemble that takes a film to a different level of brilliance. Now You See Me has a lot to do with the casting and the actors selected to play these characters.

Yamla Pagla Deewana 2
2013 · DNA · Jun 2013
At the beginning of the film, Sunny looks towards the sky in disdain and asks, "Why Rabba?", we ask the same! Neither funny, nor witty, YPD2 looks dated and feels half-hearted in its attempt to cater to the family audience.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
2013 · DNA · May 2013
Despite the terrific ensemble, the film belongs to Deepika Padukone. She has arrived, and that isn't a dig or a snide remark, but a validation of her evolution from being just another stunning face to someone who can keep you engaged even in the weak moments.

Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns
2013 · DNA · May 2013
At home with the genre, Dhulia delivers a winner that not only entertains, but keeps you engaged with its riveting screenplay and top notch performances.

Kai Po Che!
2013 · DNA · May 2013
The film works on more levels than it fails, and most of it is because of its brilliant execution. Watch it for the performances.

I Don't Luv U
2013 · DNA · May 2013
I Don't Luv U is a futile exercise in using a MMS controversy as a tool to lure the audience into watching a half baked script, some cringe worthy scenes and performances that look like an audition gone bad.

Ishkq in Paris
2013 · DNA · May 2013
Watch Ishkq if you are a die-hard PZ fan. Otherwise rent the Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy starrer Before Sunrise and experience the true essence of an European setting for a romantic film.

Iron Man 3
2013 · DNA · May 2013
Iron Man 3 is funny, engaging, and has some really awesome action scenes. Robert Downey Jr is in form and reminds us why no other actor would work in his place.

Star Trek Into Darkness
2013 · DNA · May 2013
Watch it regardless of whether you are a fan of the series or not. Star Trek Into Darkness will win over new audience and regale you with a three course meal of action, adventure and thrill.

The Great Gatsby
2013 · DNA · May 2013
The length and pace of the second half make watching the film a tedious experience. Yes, it is stylish and there is colour and shimmer in every frame, but as the end credits roll all that you remember are Jay-Z and Lana Del Rey's melodic verses. And that doesn't bode too well for the film's reputation.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist
2013 · DNA · May 2013
The Reluctant Fundamentalist ends up being yet another 9/11 inspired tale with all the expected ingredients, but we wish the film maker had engaged and challenged us a lot more like her previous efforts

Aurangzeb
2013 · DNA · May 2013
The first half is strong, but the climax and focus on the family ties and relationship dilutes the hardcore gangster flick that it set out to be.

Gippi
2013 · DNA · May 2013
There is something innocent and vulnerable about Gippi that touches a chord, but it is the unnecessary mix and match of clichéd moments and mundane dialogues that prevents the film from rising above the ordinary.

Go Goa Gone
2013 · DNA · May 2013
Go Goa Gone is a drug that takes you on that high, but wears off soon enough before you start tripping.

Rangrezz
2013 · DNA India · Apr 2013
Don't be fooled by this simplistic story. The screenplay springs up a major surprise in the second half when every thing you watched and believed in is rubbished off.

Himmatwala
2013 · DNA India · Apr 2013
Coming from a director who claims to represent majority of the country's audience and hascarved a niche for himself through TV shows, Himmatwala is a sorry excuse for a film.
