Siddharth Anand's Fighter soars high on the entertainment quotient. Fighter is a big-screen spectacle. When those birds soar high in the air, there is nothing that can take your eyes off the screen. Vicky Kaushal's performance is sincere but sketchy, feeling bogged down by the effort to ape Sam Bahadur.

I, Frankenstein
There is a certain lethargy that sets in early on in the film. You can predict the entire plot 10 minutes into the opening scene. Also Frankenstein has always been someone with a deep dark brooding sense of humor that is missing here. The fight sequences and big moments seem heavily inspired and borrowed from recent super hero flicks. Trying to hard to fit into either the horror or thriller genre the film fails on retaining our interest as we drag ourselves into a tedious second half.

It isn't sitting through the physical and verbal abuse scenes, but these are important in the story line. McQueen is superb in his handling of the subject and shows the finesse of someone who understands the deep subtexts of the issue at hand. Despite the dramatic moments and some disturbing scenes, there is an undercurrent of faith and hope running throughout the film. Ejiofor deserves a standing ovation for his performance as each time he says a prayer or hopes the morning will light bring a different morning, we too hope and pray with him.

The Great Gatsby
The length and pace of the second half make watching the film a tedious experience. Yes, it is stylish and there is colour and shimmer in every frame, but as the end credits roll all that you remember are Jay-Z and Lana Del Rey's melodic verses. And that doesn't bode too well for the film's reputation.
