Do Patti

There's enough here for a juicy, substantive drama. But the unpacking turns more into an unravelling, mainly because the writing is shallow, and the characters lack depth.

Do Patti works brilliantly because of Kriti Sanon, who makes every minute detail of her characters count and shines on screen like never before. However, the film's flawed climax and Kajol's largely unnecessary presence undermine what could have been a stronger thriller, with the story crumbling down when the narrative takes a wrong turn in the second half.

Do Patti collapses like a house of cards when it aims to be clever, or worse still, a crusader. Credited for its story, screenplay and dialogues, Kanika Dhillon cannot tell her femme fatale from her feminist in her increasingly formulaic vision, split between ambiguous motives, unhinged interactions and stagy big reveals.

Do Patti reduces the art of storytelling to a mere artifice for meaningful cinema, delivering the message but little else. Marked by an inconsistent tone, it feels patchy and too convenient to evoke deep empathy for characters in this mishmash of genres.
