Drishyam 3

While the film has some meaty ideas that could make for a brilliant thriller, it settles for less because of its writing.

I am not saying that Drishyam 3 is a great movie — it really isn't! But Jeethu hasn't ruined the franchise's reputation this time either, which, in itself, is a big deal at this point. Among the actors, only Mohanlal delivers a performance worth mentioning.

Drishyam 3 proves that even Georgekutty's genius can't outsmart the exhausting weight of a needlessly stretched franchise. The film struggles in the second half as its overly convoluted twists and manipulative reveals fail to match the intelligence of the previous instalments. Drishyam 3 ends up the weakest film in the franchise, one where the cracks in Georgekutty's brilliant façade become too large to plaster over.

Drishyam 3 had the potential to tell a poignant story of a father who is slowly unravelled by his paranoia. It's unfortunate that Jeethu's idea doesn't translate into an engaging film.

Drishyam 3 may not deliver the Georgekutty many expected, but it offers a version of the character shaped by years of fear, guilt and survival. That change is likely to define much of the conversation around the film.

Mohanlal in all his elements in this mostly satisfying conclusion.

Drishyam 3 is no longer just about Georgekutty’s carefully planned schemes to save his family from prison. Instead, it examines the emotional and psychological consequences of the crime and the reality that the family may never truly find peace again. Beneath the suspense and twists, the film ultimately becomes a story about guilt, survival, and a father’s relentless instinct to protect his family at any cost.

Drishyam 3, the least effective of the three films, does not feel like a page from a thriller series, but rather a peek into the personal diary of someone who has not had a peaceful day in years. What could have turned into a complete disaster is saved by a few intriguing flourishes in the writing and by Mohanlal's interpretation of Georgekutty's mindscape.
