Good parodies are the ones that make most of their tongue-in-cheek flavour. Add too much slapstick and it only gets more annoying. That’s entertainment. It treads a thin line. And in our industry it’s a habit to fall off the line, too often, too easy.

Look anywhere but this Akshay Kumar-starrer for ‘Entertainment’…The Bollywood audience may still want their song and dance routines around trees in the exotic countryside, but what they also demand today with a growing level of maturity is the need of a decent script.

  • It’s sheer genius and Akshay’s funniest film since Hera Pheri…
All of this hard work in writing would have been futile had the film been tackily shot, just like the films it parodies. Surprisingly, Entertainment is technically great, even the scene transitions are well done.

  • Akshay’s film is mind-numbingly stupid, full of cliches…It says a lot about how starved for real entertainment this country is when Entertainment, with its stale jokes and stupidity, gets a laugh.

On the whole, Entertainment is an entertaining fare but with sectional appeal only. Its ridiculous story-line is a major drawback and will make its appeal restricted. It will be enjoyed by the masses, families and kids. Although it will keep the target audience in splits, its business will be less than its merits because it has just a week-long window, what with eagerly awaited Singham Returns scheduled for release next week. The producers may have made their profit but some of the distributors, particularly those who have paid heavy prices, will not be as lucky.

  • There is endless punning, a play on the names of actors (example: “I Rajini-can’t believe it”) and iconic Hindi movies, SMS forward-worthy jokes and the idea that a dog can get the better of humans. Junior’s bored expression and lack of affection towards the two-legged creatures on the set is glaringly evident, but the rest of the cast has far more energy, sportingly submitting themselves to the pratfalls aimed at knee-high viewers and going along with the occasionally madcap plot twists.

  • After showing traces of wicked humour, it is reduced to nothing more than a rich source of PJs.

It is full of humour and a fun oriented film. The movie can be a refreshing change for the audience. Krushna Abhishek, who is performing as a friend of Akshay, has done justice to his part. His dialogues are super hilarious and funny.
