Jewel Thief - The Heist Begins

“This film is so lazily constructed that it doesn't even bother thinking of a new or even a new-ish title. It borrows the name from one of Hindi cinema's most iconic heist movies, and then proceeds to cobble together a plot in which every scene and sequence has been done to death, with twists you can see coming even before they start. He is trying for suave, but emits zero sparkle, just like the movie.”

“Forget smarts or cheek, there's little novelty to be found in Jewel Thief's juvenile script, barring its now free usage of the F-word to make it sound all hip and adult. By the time it makes it on screen though, Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins is akin to a sada dosa delivery for an order requesting masala—the spice factor is sorely missing.”

“Jewel Thief is completely devoid of logic and filled with such logic-less plotholes which make us go, 'Yeh Ho Kya Raha Hai?' The movie neither manages to entertain because of the laborious sub-plots and stereotypical dialogues, but also makes us wonder why Saif and Jaideep Ahlawat were needed to do this?”

“There is a lot of posturing and preening, but the characterisation is skin-deep. The earnestness of the actors can't help when the twists are unimaginative, and the dialogue writer resorts to profane words to generate impact. In such corny cinema, the art lies in covering up the frivolity of the exercise behind a sleek facade. But here, the stealth is missing.”
