Kara doesn't reinvent anything, and it doesn't pretend to. It's skillful execution and strong performance that anchors a confident slow-burn.

A soaring heist drama pegged down by a few dramatic blotches

A restrained performance from Dhanush and strong visual craft hold attention, but uneven writing and tonal shifts limit Kara's overall impact. The film works in parts, but there are stretches where the writing simplifies or rushes material that needed greater attention. In the end, it settles into something less cohesive than it intends to be, held together to a significant extent by Dhanush.

Kara did not try anything new with the movie, but tried to tell the existing story honestly. Those who want good emotions along with mass elements will definitely like this movie. Kara is a satisfying story that is crafted in a routine manner.

Director Vignesh Raja's Kara, starring Dhanush, Mamitha Baiju and Suraj Venjaramoodu, is a film about a robber caught in a life-altering situation that pulls him back into crime. It has some solid sequences, but doesn't quite come together as a whole.

Vignesh Raja's period heist drama is like watching two films. The first half is gripping, tense and emotionally precise. The second tests your patience. Dhanush, as always, makes them both worth watching.
