• Even if you somehow get over the nausea of the cash grab, the humor in the film doesn’t do much to keep you entertained. There’s fart jokes, pop culture stereotypes and puns based on planes, the lowest form of animation filmmaking that exists.

Planes, a spin-off from Disney Pixar’s Cars, is a genial but painfully familiar story of an underdog who chases his dreams, overcomes his fears and comes out a winner. It was originally meant to be a direct to DVD film. I think it’s wise to just wait for the DVD.

As far as the story is concerned I have more or less given up expecting anything novel in animation films. It is usually the underdog story who has to fight against a legendary champion (who also happens to be the ‘bad guy’), the underdog will also have a fear to overcome, he will also have a friend with whom at some stage there will be a misunderstanding but in the end all will be well.

  • Planes does have its fair share of comic moments and some of the dialogues are especially witty but how far will that take it? Though propped up on the strong, experienced wings of Disney, one is left to wonder if Planes would have enough strength of its own to successfully take off.

Planes has its share of fun moments but is underwhelming, especially when compared to the kind of animation films that are being made today.
