• In an attempt to make it relevant to our darker, more violent times, director Jose Padilha loses sight of the point he wishes to make through the film. RoboCop tries to be something it is not and in that process, ruins everything it could have been.

  • Entertaining in parts, the 2014 Robocop is heavy on the brawn and easy on the brain.

Since there is a bankruptcy of ideas in Hollywood, there are remakes galore. This time we have Paul Verhoeven’s Robocop (1987) which is rehashed and to be fair they haven’t done a bad job but the question to be asked is, what was the need in the first place?

Despite brilliant performances, panache and style, this “RoboCop” lacks the momentum of a racy action that today’s audience are expecting.

The action sequences, while few, are quite good. Robocop’s training and testing are also quite cool. Samuel L. Jackson definitely has his moment to shine and you will not be disappointed. The whole idea is about the blurring of the line that divides humans from machinery. A few pertinent questions are asked regarding the culture of consumerism and security. The graphics are alright. On the whole, a film which can be seen, but you will have to try to be patient.
