This is a film about how we all — Batman included, obviously — love something about the Batman, and it celebrates all of it. Even the shark-repellent.

The magic lies in all those bricks coming together with a profoundly satisfying click.

Its plot works on some surprisingly complex levels, seemingly playing to several different audiences at once. On one had, it is the sort of deep-cut fanboy fantasy that will likely alienate the best of us, filled with in-jokes and obscure references that are impossible to spot in just one viewing, and on the other, it works splendidly well as a delightful kids’ adventure. It’s dazzling, witty and self-deprecating. It’s Batman.

The movie does get heavy during the middle, but if you’re a fan of its previous outing, you will patiently chuckle and wait for the goodies. And yes, there is a song and dance number at the end, which still continues to mock the brawny superhero and the genre he represents.

.Running time and obvious flaws notwithstanding, you’re in for a fun time. Everything is good, but everything is not awesome.

The Lego Batman Movie is a thrill a minute ride. It features Batman in a gangster cum superhero mode, where he’s respected but not really loved by all. It’s the perfect parody to the Batman idea. Perfectly self-deprecating this movie explores the Batman legend with great tongue-in-cheek effect. It also has some iconic moments, like an all-white Batman. It’s audacious, brilliant and definitely a super powered comedy.

There is plenty here to warm up to. The twists and turns plotted planned and propelled with well-oiled ingenuity, never slacken. The fun never stops. So if you are a sucker for animated super-heroism , this one gets your attention , though in a week marked by Oscar-nominated monuments in the theatres I don’t know how far we can go and not Lego of this one.

Those who have grown up with the Batman action figures will have a total blast watching the film seeing as pretty much every supervillain, from the A grade ones like Bane to the C grade ones like Killer Croc and even some hilariously fictional ones, categorised by Batman himself as Z grade villains show up in droves.

Some portions seem like a shameless ode to the Lego company, while other scenes celebrate the joy of seeing legendary characters interact with each other. At 105 minutes, the film occasionally becomes too cute for its own good. The plot is wafer-thin but the jokes fly thick and fast.
