Vai Raja Vai Reviews and Ratings

With Vai Raja Vai, Aishwaryaa has gone unapologetically commercial and this time, her protagonist, Karthik (Gautham Karthik) suffers (or should I say gains?) from a Nostradamus-like power to predict. As I walk out of the theatre, I can’t help but feel that her second film too suffers from bipolar disorde

Overall, this film is an ambitious attempt, weighed down by bad writing. Watch this film if you want to catch a glimpse of Dhanush and if you’re a fan of heist-thrillers.

On the downside, the film runs out of steam in the second half and the rushed climax looks unconvincing. The minor hiccups notwithstanding, Vai Raja Vai is a satisfying watch.

These days it is pretty easy for any movie with a usual plot to be branded as ‘New wine in an old bottle’. But OK Kanmani for many reasons doesn’t fall into that category. When the lead pair takes the screen by storm and you have some real heavyweights wielding the camera and the microphone, you can bet your money on the entertainment that you are bound to receive. Add the heart-warming BGMs and renditions to the mix, romance just went up a notch!!

With an interesting premise backed up a generous dose of comedy, Vai Raja Vai starts off really well in the first half but only to end up highly disappointing courtesy a tepid, uninteresting second half. Aishwarya has pulled off a casting coup in the film with an ensemble cast that’s adequately entertaining but not utilized to the fullest.

Gautham gives a good performance and so have the others in the cast. But even at under two hours, the film appears rather slow and unexciting. Dhanush’s entry at the climax as Kokki Kumar, definitely makes the end more entertaining. But he perhaps comes in a little too late to save the film.
Aishwarya Dhanush’s Vai Raja Vai is a let down.

Vai Raja Vai is surely a well woven tale of an ordinary man with a single extraordinary possession and the greed of people around him. Aishwaryaa has also brilliantly ended the movie with a potential lead to a joint-sequel of Vai Raja Vai and another celebrated movie. Are we looking at a potential flick featuring Dhanush and Gautham Karthik?
