Vishwanath & Sons

Overall, Vishwanath and Sons is a satisfying film with plenty of feel-good moments that are sure to touch everyone. Venky Atluri deserves to be appreciated for handling and narrating a sensible topic in a very elegant manner and without making it uncomfortable to watch.

Venky Atluri, who last directed Lucky Baskhar, is back with a light-hearted film. For once, when a 25-year-old Mamitha Baiju is cast opposite a 51-year-old Suriya, the film acknowledges the age difference. Thankfully, it sticks the landing.

Suriya returns to the family entertainer genre after nearly two decades, delivering a warm, sincere romantic drama that works largely on the strength of its performances, and less on the script.

Director Venky Atluri has crafted a clean family drama driven by an unconventional love story, though the film remains uneven in its execution.

Vishwanath and Sons has its moments, particularly in the first half. However, the lengthy runtime, formulaic scenes and uneven second half prevent it from becoming a completely engaging family drama. Nevertheless, Vishwanath and Sons makes for a decent watch.

Unfortunately, the film's ambitious attempt to blend family drama, romance and social themes results in a contrived and largely disappointing outing. The dated writing and contrived storytelling make it a disappointing family drama despite its lavish presentation.

Vishwanath and Sons does a great job of keeping us engaged and entertained, and when it falters in the final few steps, you want to hold it tight and take it past the finish line.

A plasticky family drama that is just about watchable thanks to Suriya's performance, with the overall impact largely depending on how you feel about Mamitha Baiju's acting.

With this complicated father-son relationship at its core, director Venky Atluri's family drama ends up as a well-written, larger-than-life entertainer that not only feels wholesome, but also bats for the right progressive registers. This is good pure-genre masala cinema.
