Wild Wild Punjab

Wild Wild Punjab is nothing but a series of stereotypes about Punjabi 'mundas', and 'kudis': loud, brash, large-hearted, impulsive, pumped up on bravado and idiocy, doing the hook-up-break-up-drinking-shinking-bhangra-shangra-thing, with at least one monster SUV in the entourage, awash in noisome fart jokes and fluids from all sorts of nether parts. If you can bear to think of 'Fukrey' lite, this is it.

Wild Wild Punjab is an entertaining but bumpy trip of misadventures.

It may not be good-good, but it certainly isn't bad-bad! Most direct-to-OTT films fall in the pathetic / boring / sleep-inducing category and a Maharaj or Amar Singh Chamkila are rare. So is the case with good humor-fests. So, we can safely have a one-time watch for this film.

This is the kind of film to watch with friends and maybe a six-pack. It has some risqué bits but nothing so vulgar that the pause button would need to be hit if Mummyji walks into the room.

Wild Wild Punjab is a wholesome entertainer devoid of any dull moments. The comedy of errors consistently plays with situations that lead to chaos one after the other. Capturing the essence of Punjab -- unlike how we have seen in Imtiaz Ali films so far -- this film brings raw and wild humour that we have missed in a long time.

The rest of Simarpreet Singh's film is oddly strained and docile, a blur of ham-fisted hi-jinks and inane one-liners. Wild Wild Punjab runs low on horsepower and horseplay, with the director struggling to choreograph the levels of comedic chaos he clearly aspires to.
