The audience's reaction at its midnight premiere is any indication it's another hit for this unlikely action star who is fast following in the footsteps of Charles Bronson, Steven Seagal and Bruce Willis.

Smartly taking it all in a more mature, much darker direction, Cretton, with the help of a crackerjack screenplay, has expertly crafted a Spidey flick that returns the character to his roots as a NYC crimefighter. With production elements that are top of the line, including stunning cinematography from Brett Pawlak, this is indeed a Brand New Day in the cinematic incarnation of Spider-Man.

It is a charmer, and fortunately one in which both kids and their parents will find equally much to like. The talking sheep are a no-brainer to keep the little ones amused, and the cleverly written murder mystery is actually a step above what makes the grade in the genre these days.

Jaafar's casting might have seemed a bit too all in the family, but the fact that he doesn't do his own singing didn't bother me, because this guy channels Uncle Michael in uncanny ways and simply sells this performance with all the right dance moves and sharp dramatic talent to make us believe Michael Jackson is once again with us. This Michael is the film fans will line up for more than once, a chance to see this genius up close and in Imax like never before.

These filmmakers have found a way to mix the time-honored adventure movie genre with that of horror to satisfy contemporary audiences but also spark some nostalgia for a brand we don't see as often in this Marvel/DC superhero era.
Snow White

The good news is, even though Snow White may not be "the fairest of all" Disney reboots, it is just fine, and in some ways even more than fine thanks in large part to producer Marc Platt and his associate Jared Leboff. This Snow White isn't gonna make anyone forget cherished childhood memories of the one that started it all for Disney, but it is certainly enough to make you whistle while you watch.
