Shubha Shetty-Saha's Film Reviews
-
Gulaab Gang might look like a feminist film but unfortunately, it is anything but one…Debutant director Soumik Sen would have been better off making a masala film where a male hero beats up dozens of villain?s cronies and everyone goes home happy. That way, there wouldn’t be any false expectations. This one is as fake as a pink elephant.
-
Gunday attempts to bring back that time, that bravado and a whole mish-mash of action sequences from films such as Deewar and the like. Unfortunately, everything rings as false as the mile-long eyelashes of the cabaret dancer Nandita, played by Priyanka Chopra.

The movie has an interesting premise but a better execution would have been welcome. Also, a little more logic in the storyline would have helped the film.

There are movies that entertain you and gladden your hearts, there are movies that make you sad and weepy, and then there are movies that well, evoke only one emotion. Boredom. One by Two is that movie. It made me want to sleep not only while watching it, but even as I write its review.

…talking about or analysing this movie might be a futile exercise, considering that even as I write this, there are scores of ‘bhaifans’ out there beaming inside a theatre and enjoying themselves, no matter how bad the film is. We can only hope they are inspired to help three people like their bhai instructed them to. Something good has to come out of everything.

A self-indulgent, dumb movie, intolerable from the word go. The only bright point in this otherwise forgettable experience is this actress, Rakul Preet Singh.
Hopefully we’ll get to watch more of her in some other film but you certainly need to avoid this one.

There have been some bizarre, irreverent films that were also great fun. But those films have had some brilliant thinking gone into it. This one is surely not it. Avoid it.
-
…should be given the credit for being a film with sincere attempt and ambition. However, its lack of vision, especially in terms of technology, works completely against it.
-
Even though the actors Manu Rishi, Manjot Singh and Anand Tiwari were pretty decent, their efforts seemed to make no difference to this half-hearted attempt of a movie. The director doesn’t explore any of the stories within the story in depth and just smugly skims on the surface, leaving the viewer absolutely uninvolved. Wish the unique concept was better utilised. A shoddy, lazy film.

Shahid Kapoor , Sonakshi Sinha and Sonu Sood might have put in sincere performances but for a movie that is so awful, all their effort seems to be in vain. And yes, wish the ‘silent ho jaa nahi toh violent ho jaoonga’ threat was used on the man who scored the relentless, consistently bad and criminally loud background music.
