Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani might be laden with faults in the conventional sense of the word, but if you give yourself over to the madness, you emerge having a pretty good time. Watch it through 80s-tinted glasses and you’ll have an absolute ball.

The filmmakers here pay Salman a tribute, by bringing him in as himself. Fans jump at him while he makes a casual chitchat with Katrina Kaif, who gets referred to as herself later in the movie as well. Such is the extreme movie-star ‘fanship’ of the filmmakers themselves that you realise, they’re unlikely to be making much of a film. You aren’t proven wrong.

Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani, a comedy set in a comic book universe, is a frustratingly uneven film. Some of it is genuinely funny and delightful and some of it is repetitive, and annoyingly tedious.

But even in its most limp moments, what keeps the film from derailing is its lead pair: Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. There is such sizzle and beauty and unadulterated charm here that you really can’t look away.

…despite the blemishes, AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI is a full-on entertainer. One thing is for sure, you’d fall in prem with Prem and his antics. An ideal date movie that should connect with the youth.

Fans of Andaz Apna Apna, and there are plenty, are hugely excited about Santoshi?s return to comedy. It’s difficult, however, comparing AAA with APKGK as both follow different schools of humour ? Andaz… was all about ridiculous situations, mixed identities and witty lines while Ajab… involves goofier, physical comedy.

It’s Tom and Jerry style humor, alright. But, it doesn’t have a quarter of the recall value. And the saddest part is that it’s a desperate effort for a repeat performance by Rajkumar Santoshi. And that part is pretty obvious. If only being yourself wasn’t that difficult. A wannabe Andaz Apna Apna. And not very successful at that.
