Luke Evans as Vlad The Impaler is fabulous and has a sex appeal. Sarah Gadon and Dominic Cooper has also played their part well. But director Gary Shore fails to recreate the same Dracula magic that the other movies have.

A film that could have been a genre breaking masterpiece, Dracula Untold in its present form would be a more honest work of art if it were titled Dracula Unfortunately.

Overall, this film is not for those seeking a spooky tale, but for those ready to enjoy a human-interest saga.

…this is essentially Evans’s vehicle. His version of Dracula is action-oriented rather than horrifying and creepy. And keeping that in mind, he manages, in most parts, to get his teeth into the substance of Count Dracula’s legend convincingly enough.

It’s a short enough film for an epic tale. Worth one watch.

…the film isn’t the least bit frightening — the makers seem to forget that this is supposed to be a horror film, and in shoehorning all the action computer-generated imagery, the film loses all its thrill and sense of dread.

Ultimately, the film is neither bad enough to give you a migraine, nor is it good enough to warrant a watch. It ends with a setup for a sequel, basically saying “haha, we’ll be back, suckers!”.

If you are bored and looking for a sci-fi entertainer, this might be the right choice for you. This movie is also a catch for anyone curious enough to dig into the folklore of Dracula.
