Foxcatcher illuminates three complex men (to varying degrees) and their relationships. It highlights the disservice we as a society do to our sportspersons (a point that will resonate with audiences here). And it depicts just how much we’re willing to overlook when great wealth and power are brought to bear on a situation.

  • Overall, Director Bennett Miller, after generating the right balance for a tense build up crushes the impact with a rushed denouement. This leaves the viewers in a vacuum. If it were not for the ace actors and their performances, Foxcatcher would have been just another mediocre fare.

  • Foxcatcher is aided by a powerful script (Max Frye and Dan Futterman) and is based on a true story. The tale is no doubt an unsettling one… and yet, you’ll not want to miss a second.

There are three remarkable performances which elevate the film, starting with Mark Ruffalo who plays a rather unusual character. After doing mostly mainstream films, Channing Tatum shows there is more to him than just his good looks. Steve Carell conveys all the right expressions in good measure, as John du Pont he adds another dimension to his character.

  • You’ll leave the theater wowed by the acting, yet unimpressed by the film.

Foxcatcher is one of those films that need to be seen. You get to see powerhouse acting from Steve Carell. In fact, he has been nominated multiple times for his performance. The dynamics between Tatum, Ruffalo and Carell also keep you captivated. Foxcatcher isn’t just a sports film, it’s a showcase of relationships and human nature.
