The film is as aimless and pointless as its protagonists, and Agneya Singh is no Richard Linklater or Gus Vant Sant who can create magic with a leisurely film about lost young folks (Dazed and Confused, SubUrbia, My Own Private Idaho).

A pretentious little film that’s so cliche ridden, you wish the four friends who have set out for the hills in search of a ‘legendary’ drug to smoke up, fall off some cliff.

While the film is quite predictable, it still manages to be just about interesting enough and the pace is well balanced, too. At times some scenes might feel pointless and boring. The film has certainly done well to change the opinions of foreigners about India, owing to its genuine portrayals of the country’s youth. Perhaps the best aspect of the film is that it’s a visual treat, with all its scenic shots of the Himalayas. These are only accentuated by good cinematography.

  • Ultimately, M Cream comes off as an amateur, even pretentious effort to showcase an unexplored subculture. In the end, one of the characters says, “What a journey it has been”, and you think, “Not really.”

  • Dubey and Shah are adept at what they do. But it’s Shah who really steals the show. The character seems to be an extension of his real self, and you will have newfound respect for him. All in all, a fun, unusual watch for the weekend.

Overall, watch the film only if you want to encourage new talent.

M Cream is incomprehensible in parts, poignant in others but it is mostly a pointless movie. Though brimming with raw energy, the narrative lacks vision to use it right.
