What of Ajay Devgn, the hero who leads this enterprise which wants to be a laugh-a-minute, madcap caper, but keeps slackening? I love broad laughs and hare-brained comedies as much as the next person, but whatever happened to keeping it crisp and connected?

Making the most of the scenic locales where the film plays out, he lends Son of Sardaar a veneer of shimmering brightness that once in a while serves to deflect attention away from the banality that runs the film to the ground.

This one is an entertainer that, without preaching, gives us a positive message on life. The second half comes together with great briskness, and then there is no stopping the fun quotient, with the Border sequences bringing the house down and many hilarious one-liners.

Son of Sardaar 2 is a hot mess but it's a mess that might just tickle your funny bone if you're in the mood for some unfiltered, unapologetic lunacy. Ajay Devgn, who's no stranger to this brand of madness, is in familiar territory and his comic timing and screen presence are what keep this ship afloat.

We didn't ask for this Ajay Devgn sequel, but it's here and it's silly, harmless fun. The film doesn't try to be anything more than a straightforward masala entertainer with over-the-top action sequences and predictable plot points.

While Son of Sardaar 2 is an exaggerated mass entertainer with over-the-top narrative, it delivers plenty of chuckles and light‑hearted moments.
