Johnson, whose previous writing/directing credits include smart indies like Brick and Looper, makes the transition to Blockbusterland with the ease of a pro. It’s hardly surprising that he’s been entrusted with creating a new trilogy in the Star Wars universe. The galaxy is safe on his watch.

Engaging, advancing and thrilling, The Last Jedi doesn’t disappoint on major levels and we can thank the makers for not messing it up and for being true to the force. As Master Yoda would’ve said, “Watch One May. Enjoy One Must.”

Director Rian Johnson has made the best, most spiritual Star Wars movie since the Empire Strikes Back. It is one of the finest blockbusters of the year.

To kill goodness takes more than the might of a dazzling lightsabre or firing walkers. Its indestructibility is asserted in the most surreal and spiritual manner by the Skywalker siblings at crucial junctures of the story.
You don’t have to be a Star Wars nerd to enjoy its poignant pursuit of virtue.
Like a wise green man once said, ‘Through the force, things you will see.’

With some absolutely gorgeous moments that will become imprinted in every fan’s mind, ‘The Last Jedi’ is everything a Star Wars film should be, and so much more. Johnson weaves an emotionally rewarding tale while balancing all the essential sci-fi action expected, but manages to give ‘The Last Jedi’ its own heart and voice.

Rian Johnson’s strategy for The Last Jedi was simple: identify everything that’s great about the previous Star Wars films, use those things sparely as Easter eggs and not main plot threads, and craft a brand new storyline that goes in a bold and adventurous direction full of wonder, thrills and discovery. It makes The Last Jedi the most enjoyable blockbuster of the year.

The visuals are bright and colourful, especially the one scene that takes place in a casino and the scenes that lead to the film’s final battle. The computer generated images mesh seamlessly into the live action sequences demanding the film to be seen on an IMAX screen.

In this entry at least, the spectacle is fuelled by true narrative ambition. Because these 150 minutes aim to give you a Star Wars experience you never knew you wanted. Once you’ve experienced what a great story can do in this universe, settling for anything less is not an option. It’s all on you to send the new trilogy off in style Abrams.

The Last Jedi is not the greatest Star Wars film but it certainly is a worthy addition to the galactic saga. Recommended!
