  1. Cinema Express

    Film review ·

What truly comes through Thunivu is that H Vinoth cares, and I think that augurs well at a time when we could do with braver voices willing to take on oppressive systems. For every forgettable exchange of bullets, there's a dialogue that's fiercer, making it hard to be unforgiving of Thunivu, even despite all the flab.
  2. India Today

    Film review ·

With an excellent premise, the film has a lot to offer. But, remember to look past the flaws. Thunivu is a film that brings back the Ajith we have enjoyed in the past.
  3. Ottplay

    Film review ·

Ajith's terrific screen presence saves this action drama which entertains despite minor flaws. Watch it for the star's majestic appearance and a few action episodes. A few cliché scenes and lack of fleshed out ambitious ideas make this a one-time watch.
  4. PinkVilla

    Film review ·

Larger-than-life and ambitious 'Thunivu' is somewhat of a noisy film with a few superfluous and many convenient ideas. Yet, it works because of its lead man, larger-than-life action, and some plot points.
  5. Times Of India

    Film review ·

Despite raising many relevant questions about the operations of our financial institutions and the impact that has on the common man, the film's refusal to show it as something that affected the protagonist directly makes it impossible to root for him whole-heartedly. And when the film turns into a logic-defying chase on the sea, we begin to wonder if guts alone can be enough for glory.
  6. Hindustan Times

    Film review

Thunivu, unlike Gentleman, doesn't take itself too seriously and thankfully that's what makes it a largely entertaining film, which after a long time allows Ajith to have so much fun with a character. In spite of some rough edges, especially how the film does lose its purpose in the second half, Thunivu holds good for most part because of Ajith's wild performance of a character that's both a hero and villain.
  7. OnManorama

    Film review ·

The first half of the film is definitely more enjoyable, as 'Thunivu' gets too stretched thereafter and concludes predictably. The twists and turns in 'Thunivu' ensure the film is engaging. However, the drawback is the treatment and the plot's failure to strike a balance.
