Ananya Bhattacharya's Film Reviews

A good horror film is chicken soup for the soul and when such a film is tailor-made to be a family affair (similar to Bong Joon-ho’s 2006 Korean monster film The Host), it becomes all the more ‘important’. You begin to root for the characters fighting insurmountable odds and miss them when they die in gruesome, undeserving ways. Train to Busan has all these qualities and probably the worst thing we will get from the film is that Hollywood has already begun remaking it. Yes, hide kids.

At the end of the day, everything in Inferno is just about passable. Watch the film if you really want to.

an attempt to push the idea that Superman exists and he is Indian, and he beats even Superman in his own arena. If you believe that, you will love MSG The Warrior Lion Heart and you will not read a 600-word review to know how it is.

The climax is expected, but Mirzya wins in the way it is delivered to the audience. You know the inevitable has to happen, but you want a different, happy end to the story of Mirza-Sahiban.

Dhoni’s biopic is an exercise in eulogising the cricketer, telling people how great this man is. Over a span of more than three hours, the greatness of Dhoni plays in front of you.
-
In all, watch Baar Baar Dekho if you swear by the newer, fitter, leaner, hotter Katrina Kaif and her abs. There’s nothing much to watch otherwise.

The problem with Rustom lies in its twists too. You can put your finger on them much before the twists actually play out in front of you, something which is fatal for a ‘crime thriller’. Rustom plays to the gallery, eliciting cheers and applause from the audience who want to see their hero reinstated as a hero.
-
…despite its decent-enough story, doesn’t quite make a mark on the mind. The film is a crowd-pleaser, especially when Saare Jahan Se Achha plays in the background and you need to deal with the goosebumps.

Raman Raghav 2.0 is another triumph for Anurag Kashyap. It sure is not a Gangs of Wasseypur, but the filmmaker knows what to do with his viewers. Shocking people, disturbing them, stirring them come naturally to this man as killing comes to Ramanna. Watch the film. ‘Sa-prem’!

TE3N, however, is no Kahaani. It is at best a hotchpotch of a film that could have been so much better. Watch it though. For the brilliant acting.
