In spite of handling a blood-curdling script, Vetrimaaran has managed to stay away from gratuitous gore which has worked in favour of Visaranai. The film is hard-hitting and gritty, that makes it an impactful watch.

Aranmanai 2 may work largely because of its second half and comical portions, but isn’t it high time our directors avoid lacklustre movies in the name of horror-comedy?

With an interesting plot, Urumeen looks promising on paper but a topsy-turvy narration aided by an ordinary screenplay could leave you in a state of chaos, which might in turn evoke discontent.

Naanum Rowdydhaan has its moments. Though the movie blows hot and cold throughout, its fun filled climax and pre-climax portions will make you forget all its blemishes.

Kudos to director Chimbu Deven for bringing back the fantasy genre to Tamil cinema. However, his average screenplay and other technical faults makes Puli just a one time watch.

Thani Oruvan is a classified thriller which is new to Tamil cinema. The whole team deserves a pat on their back for pulling off a new age cinema while keeping all the commercial elements intact.

With a theme as unique as this, Naalu Policeum Nalla Irundha Oorum could’ve been much better had it been executed with little more intent. The movie is a rough mixture of comedy and drama in inappropriate proportions.

We all know that Papanasam is a winning script and retaining Jeethu Joseph has helped immensely. But when a performer called Kamal Haasan takes up such a project, magic on screen is rest assured.

Is it possible to entertain the audience while hitting them hard with subtle messages? Is it possible to satisfy both critics and commercial movie lovers to the fullest at the same time? Kaaka Muttai achieves exactly these. It’s not everyday you come across movies like Kaaka Muttai, for it is rare.

Kudos to the director for choosing a horror subject in his debut movie and delivering it in the best way possible. Demonte Colony is not for the weak-hearted.
