‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is a refreshing change from the dark, brooding origin stories that Hollywood has been offering lately. Everyone in the movie has fun, and so will you.

All of this hard work in writing would have been futile had the film been tackily shot, just like the films it parodies. Surprisingly, Entertainment is technically great, even the scene transitions are well done.

Just like in the first movie, Schmidt and Jenko have one simple mission: go undercover in order to infiltrate the drug dealers and find the suppliers. With the issue of a ‘plot’ quickly out of the way, 22 Jump Street storms head-on into becoming the most bromantic movie we’ve seen.

If you’re looking for a good Scarlett Johansson movie, you’re better off watching Under the Skin instead.

The film is directed by Brett Ratner, who continues his onslaught upon the audience that he started with the Rush Hour sequels, X-Men 3 and Tower Heist. If you thought those films were bad, you have seen nothing yet. To make this all the more unpleasant, it’s in 3D.

Salman Khan’s latest makes you weep for Bollywood…

The one good thing about the film is that it doesn’t run too long. In 80 minutes the film zooms by, and the animation isn’t bad at all – seeing as the film uses the same animation engine as Cars. It’s pure eye candy, with a lame environmental message thrown in. Some kids might dig the visuals and the zooming planes. But most kids are smarter than that nowadays, even the very young ones. It’s certainly not for the big kids, though I suspect part three would make its way next year regardless of this one’s box office collections.

The film also does a good job of not being preachy about relationships, and ends on the most perfect note. Seeing it once is just not enough, so by the time you’re done reading this I’ll already be at the movie theater, ready for the experience to begin again.

You can’t take away the fact that the story is a novel spin on a familiar setting and you won’t see the end coming. It’s certainly better than the likes of Vikram Bhatt’s hilarious garbage, but it’s a lesser film than its original counterpart. Pop in the DVD of the 2012 movie before you head to see this version.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is not just better than its predecessor, it also reminds you why you go to the cinema to see movies. This film is one of the best this year will deliver. The future of summer blockbusters is in Reeves’ good hands.
