Bachchhan Paandey

Bachchhan Paandey is about the making of a film but it provides a two-and-a-half-hour demo on how not to make a film. Bachchhan Paandey rides squarely on the starry, over-the-top presence of Akshay Kumar. Bachchhan Paandey is a massy and messy potboiler that wilts under its own weight.

Literally nothing about Bachchhan Paandey reaches the level of hilarity plus inspired lunacy of the original. The kindest thing I can say about this Hindi remake of Karthick Subbaraj's 'Jigarthanda' is that it shouldn't have been attempted at all. Because this was too much pain, with zero gain.

Sajid Nadiadwala's adapted screenplay is a big culprit; ideally, a film like this should have been a laugh a minute riot, but the funny moments are few and far in between. Farhad Samji's direction is weak, with little humour and too much violence, when it should have been vice versa. On the whole, BACHCHHAN PAANDEY is a must watch for the fans of Akshay Kumar and masala cinema.

Bachchhan Panday is a case of opportunity missed. It survives because of Akshay and Kriti. Both deserve to be cast in a better film together. Farhad Samji has filled his film with the Whatsapp jokes kind of comedy. It caters to the lowest common denominator and is way too loud and over the top.

'Bachchhan Paandey' doesn't deliver the goods consistently. Even with all its grandiosity and starpower, this one only manages to entertain in bits and pieces.

Despite the film's story not being up to the mark, the pace of the narrative could have helped to some degree, but even there, it falters. Bachchhan Paandey, as a whole, is a masala flick, which Akshay Kumar fans can't complain about. With an interesting plot at hand, it could have been much better, but as of now, it's surely a one-time-watch for those with a penchant for comedy.
