Actor Elizabeth Banks’s directorial debut hopes to cruise on the surprise success of Pitch Perfect, but a completely random script, held together by a few scenes of actual delight, lets down her effort. If the singing is few and far between, drama is virtually non-existent with any such scenarios either wished or laughed away.

Pitch Perfect 2 may go off key on the comedy, but on the a capella, it hits all the right notes.

  • The most enjoyable aspect about Pitch Perfect 2 is the singing. The vocals are polished, joyful and the interplay between the trained voices is seamless, forming a delightful musical tapestry. This more than makes up for some of the negatives, such as the uneven script and the sometimes jerky transitions between set pieces. But then again, if you watch this film, you’re not going to do so for scintillating dialogues. By and large, PP2 is a fun film with its best moments being of the musical variety.

…the second half sees a far more balanced film. Stick around and you’ll be treated to a satisfying end to a film that does well, but could’ve done so much better!

The film passes the Bechdel test with flying colors but the same cannot be said about it when it comes to entertainment. But if you like fluffy entertainment, this could well be your ticket.

  • With decent technical and production values, Director Elizabeth Banks’ handling of a weak script, fails to impress viewers.

  • …could surely have been a smarter film, but it’s fun enough, and it’s for everyone. And luckily it’s not in 3D.

Nothing new happens in this absolutely unnecessary sequel…

PP2 has romance and a great soundtrack although you won’t find memorable songs like the ones from The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady and West Side Story, songs that you can go around singing all your life. However, the riff-off in the basement of a rich fan’s imposing mansion is spectacular. As is Kendrick and Snoop Dogg’s wonderful cover of Winter Wonderland.

The pitches are back, but just aren’t impressive enough! If you are a chick-flick fan and have loved Pitch Perfect and want to keep up with the storyline, you have got to watch this one.

  • A sequel to a good film is always a tough act. Pitch Perfect 2 shows us this; it banks on a good melody, and yet, hits all the wrong notes.
