The Ice Age franchise has run its course. Now it’s exhausted.

Collision Course has a few entertaining moments, but it’s bland and unoriginal for the most part. Maybe it will be distracting enough for children under 10, but it’s incredibly tedious for anyone beyond that.

The set pieces in Ice Age: Collision Course work fine. A giant asteroid is about to destroy planet Earth and the way the mammals manage to avoid the catastrophe is engaging in parts. But the movie’s constant effort to be an Ice Age film hard selling family values is tiring and unoriginal. If the storytelling is inconsequential to your movie watching experience, Collision Course works out. But if you are a seasoned movie buff, chances are you’ll be bored to death.

For the younger lot, it could be a fun movie outing but those accompanying their kids, may find themselves bored in parts.

…a great ride. One that you’ll enjoy right from the start till the end. 

Collision Course never really soars. It doesn’t show any inventiveness, apart from the set pieces involving Scrat the squirrel (Chris Wedge) and his acorn. Five movies later, it remains the only track that is still as amusing as it was the first time; it has the absurd entertainment value of Tom And Jerry cartoons. The makers have produced short movies starring Scrat, but they should perhaps consider giving him his own feature-length film. At the moment, that seems like a more entertaining prospect than the main franchise.

The only entertaining aspect of Ice Age: Collision Course is Scrat and his adventures with the elusive acorn. Five films in, the cutaways to Scrat struggling to grab his beloved acorn feel like a different film altogether. Like the Minions, he needs a standalone film of his own – perhaps watching a silent film would be a much needed change for those exhausted with the cacophony of the Ice Age movies. It’s a shame that Blue Sky studios continues to make these inane sequels when they’re capable of making classics like The Peanuts Movie.

So there’s really not much take home here other than a few stray moments of elastic levity. It certainly appears from the lack of surprises here, that this franchise has outlived its fly-by date!

Don’t go in with mammoth expectations and you won’t be disappointed. It may as well be titled Apocalypse Averted, but that still wouldn’t salvage this film’s fate!

Towards the end, there’s something about magnetic rocks getting dropped into a volcano, but I’d lost all patience and could only keep going back to that opening scene in which Sid shares his dating philosophy: “Love them and leave them.”

More than ever, Ice Age is intent on finding love for each of its characters, who go about expressing it in a manner that is absolutely human-like.

ce Age: Collision Course is a very average watch and doesn’t quite make its place into your heart.

Ice Age: Collision Course is never able to shake off the been-there-done-that feel that envelopes it from start to finish.

…is not one of the big ticket, story-heavy Hollywood animation films we have seen in recent times. It is a light entertainer mainly targeting younger audiences but is worth a watch.

While the animation is topnotch, and there’s enough for young audiences, the accompanying adults them might find this course a slog.

Collision Course is a relentless, fun-filled, fast-paced and most recent part in a long-running series that is pretty much sure to keep the kids (the audience for this movie) entertained with its energy.
