Khamoshiyan written by Vikram Bhatt and directed by Karan Darra is a film on auto-pilot right from the word go. There seems to be very little effort gone in writing and telling a story that has any conviction or entertainment value.

Find a cheap morning show if you’re really keen on catching this one. Or don’t. Even if you’re a fan of any of these ‘actors’ or ‘writer’ or ‘director’. Unless you’re a glutton for punishment.

The film does offer some shrieks and shocks if you keep aside rational thinking, and if you’re a horror junkie who’s in it only for the chills, you may walk out sufficiently spooked.

In case you are looking for laughter punctuated by sudden horror, lovely dialogues and illogical scenes, you should watch this one. If not, maintain silence as well as distance.

As always, Bollywood can’t really get serious about horror, because it needs to shove in a song at that very moment. Scary `bhoots’ are all very well, but they can’t trump ‘geets’ that will play in a loop.

Either we have become so gutsy that scary movies don’t haunt us anymore, or Bollywood moviemakers are not coming up with such creepy and eerie movies that can at least give us goosebumps. After watching ‘Khamoshiya’ we seriously need to dwell on the fact that the storyline of all these scary movies have become so redundant that it is more of a déjà vu everytime.

If you find flying objects, animated butterflies, erotic dreams and the sight of letters being deleted automatically from a word document on a laptop scary, you deserve to watch Khamoshiyan alone and be disowned by friends and family all your life, like its protagonist.

Ali Fazal kind of holds the first half together, simply because we are still confused about the dead husband. But post interval it all collapses into a heap of inanity. Frankly speaking, there is just too much noise in ‘Khamoshiyan’.

If you are a Gurmeet Choudhary fan you will be disappointed, so I’d suggest you skip the movie and wait for the actor’s next film. According to me, the movie lacks soul i.e. the story, barring which it makes for a decent watch. See it only if you have nothing else to do this weekend.

How long can you watch three good-looking people doing the dumbest of things in the misguided hope that they would scare you with their propensity to think with their private parts in public places.

After a while you just wish they would keep it in their pants.

Khamoshiyan has nothing extraordinary to it. It is a horror erotica and if you are a fan of this genre, I am sure this is one of the better films amongst those that have hit the screens recently. Suspense, mystery and also the haunting experience being average, I am going with a 2/5 for this film.

Khamoshiyan slips into a hopeless mess of time worn ghost busting, freakish sights and comical gems like ‘Hum yeh laash paidal nahi le jaa sakte.’

On the whole, Khamoshiyan is an engrossing fare that meets the expectations.

There are not many scary elements in the movie, but every now and then the director does many to spook you mildly. If not for the scary thriller elements, you can watch Khamoshiyan for it’s erotic portion.
