If the first half could’ve been knocked off and this was dedicatedly a film about home invasion, it would’ve surely been a more focussed, if not a more thrilling watch. But then, that would have been an entirely different film.

Game Over, which is presented by Anurag Kashyap, is not without its share of failings, but director Saravanan is clearly endowed with an exceptional sense of the potential of the cinematic medium to probe complex aspects of humanity. Taapsee Pannu, as she has been in her recent outings, is never less than convincing. While she may be the primary reason why you must go out a watch this film, it certainly isn’t devoid of other intrinsic merits in terms of substance and execution.

Overall, Game Over is a laudable attempt by Ashwin and he is definitely one of the promising filmmakers of this generation! On the whole, watch it, for it bravely treads new ground.

Suffice it to know, this is a ‘home-invasion’ picture, a full-on sub-genre of its own, with limited pay-off, yes. But with only one question that should really matter: Does it keep you interested/hooked right through to the end? For sure. That’s all you need to know. And get set, go!

This Taapsee Pannu-starrer is gripping edge of seat thriller…The artistic values in this film are incredible. There’s no reliance on cheesy jump scares, just pure dread and atmosphere.

There are a couple of genuinely scary moments, but the rest of it is too stretched: even the 102 minute run time feels too long, with not enough thrills or chills.

There’s a lot going on, but barring its leading lady’s impressive performance, it’s simply hit and miss.
