...the film makes up for these niggles by creating a leading lady who is cracklingly alive, dealing with difficulties, and finding a way around them. Sulu is a win.

Vidya Balan's deals with real conflicts and dares to push some boundaries hard. It is a special film, the kind where you know what is going to happen and yet texture and detailing give you much to marvel at...

From start to finish, Sulu resembles someone we have all seen in our life. Someone that Vidya brings to screen like no other could have and someone we’ll see in a different light now onwards. If English Vinglish gave housewives an identity, Tumhari Sulu breathes life into their existence.

Despite painting a very realistic canvas of issues that plague people’s domestic life such as ego fights and the likes, Suresh’s story seems a bit too clumsily wrapped leaving several loopholes in the narrative.

Tumhari Sulu is a slice of a life film which is worth your ticket price. It is engaging and has a massive social message. Don't miss this riveting tale of a middle class housewife cum radio jockey. You will definitely come out of the theatres with tears of joy!

Despite its love for feel-good, Tumhari Sulu isn't stuck in a fool's paradise and confronts the conflicts thrown in its path, feels Sukanya Verma.

...if this film has a beating heart, it is Vidya Balan. She is in every scene and lights it up with her sheer screen presence. This is an author-backed role, but she makes it so much more by adding layers of empathy and vulnerability to make Sulu a character that will stay with you long after you have left the theatre.

As one said at the start, had the length of this film been slightly trimmed, it would’ve made it twice as appealing. Go for this one — if you want to know the recipe for what makes ordinary people, extraordinary.

Tumhari Sulu is one of those films which makes you smile while you leave the cinema hall. If not a masterpiece, Tumhari Sulu is a monumental piece by the master Vidya Balan. Watch it to fall in love with Vidya all over again.

‘Tumhari Sulu’ rides on Vidya Balan’s knockout performance and has a string of beaming moments to offer. Watch it for those.

This film, where Vidya shows up as a vivacious, fat Virar aunty, embodying all the compassions and contradictions within a modern desi woman, is not an exception, by any means. It is really as good as it gets.

Tumhari Sulu is  more remarkable for its central performance then  for actualizing the performance  into a state  of  durable renewability. Often, the  storytelling gets sluggish, and the narrative faces the  imminent danger of  losing the audience. But then, Vidya Balan takes charge over and over again. And as in life, so in the film, we realize all  is not lost.

Vidya Balan and Manav Kaul are wonderful in Tumhari Sulu. And despite its exasperating folly as it draws to a close, Tumhari Sulu is a throat-achingly, side-splittingly hysterical entertainer.

Sulochana likes to compete, and she wins at most things. Whether it is a Pressure Cooker for a Radio Call In show or a spoon and lemon race at her son's school. She takes a chance and becomes an RJ too. Her sexy late night call-in job alarms her rather middle class family and you'll love her dexterity in handling them all. Delightful watch.

'Tumhari Sulu', with a light heart and charismatic dazzle, is a massively fun and interesting film which has an inventive script. But it works more than anything else from the 'light-weighed' and 'feel-good' template of Indian cinema. With particularly enchanting and dazzling plot and an impressive performance by Vidya Balan, it changes the angle of a brimming smile which comes to the audience's face. This is an intimate film filled with warmth.
Tumhari Sulu is about an Indian housewife Sulochana who applies to become an RJ, and gets a 'Saree wali bhabhi- late night show' especially for herself. The film leaves you with an aftertaste of satisfaction and a sense of getting so much fun for the price of simple, regular cinema. Vidya Balan is easily the best performer on screen with her show-stealing performance. It's a big 3.5 for 'Tumhari Sulu'. Don't miss it, its satisfying.

There comes a time in an actor's career when they reinvigorate their image by giving the best performance of their life. Vidya Balan is that actor in Tumhari Sulu, director Suresh Triveni's debut full-length feature film. She plays a 30-something homemaker whose life revolves around the chores of her house and taking care of her two pillars - a young son and a timorous husband played by the talented Manav Kaul. She dreams of making it big in life by doing whatever she can get her hands onto as she finds joy in everything. Despite a series of bickering (that may have started since her childhood) by her family members, she finally takes the plunge and decides to work as a radio jockey for a late-night somewhat adult show. How that affects her life and the lives of her two pillars is what Tumhari Sulu is all about - giving the average audience insufficient fodder for thought. It is a highly predictable, and somewhat contrived story of a homemaker who takes up a job, but the beauty of the film is in its making. Director and writer Triveni has crafted a sweet story that is palpable to the core, with the right amount of ingredients for flavor. Supported by melodious music (and songs) and some of the best performances of the year by Balan, Kaul, and Neha Dhupia, Tumhari Sulu manages to bring tears in your eyes, thanks to its overtly melodramatic second half. There is enough to not like in the film, but Balan's presence on-screen makes Tumhari Sulu look like a dessert with a permanent supply of water. Indian viewers are going to find Tumhari Sulu highly relatable, which further makes it one of the better Bollywood films of 2017. Watch it with your mum. TN.

The much awaited weekend is finally here as "Justice League" have hit the screens to mixed reviews. Well I intend to watch it on Sunday & hopefully it will satiate my expectations. Anywaz another movie that had grabbed my attention was Vidya Balan's "Tumhari Sulu". Since she plays the protagonist, I didnt to have think twice as to whether I wanted to watch it or not. The trailer promised it to be a bindaas flick with oodles of laughter. So does it deliver what it promised???

Sulochana aka Sulu (Vidya Balan) is a middle class housewife whose hallmark was her exuberance & confidence to take up any challenge. This was very much evident from the hoards of prizes that she had won from random competitions that she participated in. The latest prize that she had won was a pressure cooker from a radio station & as she went there to collect it, she happened to come across an ad calling for candidates who were interested to become a RJ. Despite having no prior experience, being the optimistic person that she is; she decides to give it a try. As always, her husband Ashok (Manav Kaul) was her pillar of support & urged her to pursue her ambitions. Her charismatic & "happy-go-lucky" nature lands her the job though it was a late night slot that she had to fill in. How she manages her job & household chores forms the crux of the movie.

Scripted & directed by ad-man Suresh Triveni, the film gives us a slice of reality with the incidents that happens in the life of a middle class household. The best part was undoubtedly the husband-wife relationship, as both of them look out for each other & keeps their romance alive. It's a feel good movie that doesnt delve too much into the problems that arise in Sulu's life after she takes up the job. The tensions that her husband faces in his job & the problems that her son finds himself in at school, all of which affects the dynamics in their life. But Suresh has opted to wade over it & keeps the mood light throughout the whole 140 minutes. There are quite a few tracks in the movie that has been handled by many individuals, but my favourite was "Ban ja Rani" by Guru Randhawa. As for other technical aspects, all of them were aptly executed.

Vidya is the heart & soul of the movie, & she has nailed her performance yet again. The way she expresses array of emotions with utmost ease makes her a delight to watch. Equally impressive was the performance of each & every artist irrespective of how brief their role was, as they have done utmost justice to their roles. Manav Kaul pleasantly surprised me with his act as I never thought he would be able to pull it off so effectively. Neha Dhupia continues to grab eyeballs whenever she is given a substantial role & hopefully more directors will cast her.

Verdict: It might not a glitzy type of movie or one with mass heroes, but it is surely one that will entertain the audience. There is no doubt that it will have positive word of mouth in its favour & should be able to make decent collection at the box-office. In short, do check it out for Vidya & her exuberance!!!

    Rating: 3/5
