Teri Meri Kahaani is an Hindi romance drama film directed by Kunal Kohli. The film stars Shahid Kapoor, opposite Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles, paired together for the second time after Kaminey. The tagline is "thrice upon a love story", as the premise is set between 1910, 1960, and 2012. Each actor plays a different character in each time period, but each character they play is linked to one another. The film was released on 22 June 2012 in 1500 screens across India. The theatrical trailer was revealed on 6 April 2012, along with Housefull 2 in cinemas.

Critic Consensus

Critical reception for Teri Meri Kahaani leans negative, with most reviewers finding the film shallow and emotionally unconvincing despite an ambitious multi-era premise. The 1960s period recreation and certain musical numbers received scattered appreciation, and one reviewer found the storytelling approach charming enough to call it a worthwhile date film. However, the dominant criticism is that the film's romantic core feels synthetic and superficial, and the repetitive three-story structure fails to differentiate itself meaningfully across eras. Several critics advised waiting for its television premiere or avoiding it altogether.

"Teri Meri Kahaani doesn't work despite potential in the premise. It feels soulless and superficial, and is unlikely to find many fans."

"What I enjoyed most was the recreation of Mumbai in 1960 — empty streets, an Art Deco movie theatre, women in breathlessly tight blouses and bouffant hairdos. But the film's main ingredient — love — is too synthetic to soar."

"Who wants three Shahids and three Priyankas for the price of one ticket? Not me, even though I duly bought mine, and prepared to be regaled three times over by a pair of actors who are capable of good things on their good days."

"On the whole, TERI MERI KAHAANI is uncomplicated and charming. Not the usual romantic fare, this one presents three different stories in three different eras without getting theatrical or melodramatic. Thanks to its innovative storytelling, it comes across as the perfect date movie, holding tremendous appeal for the Facebook Gen. TERI MERI KAHAANI is pleasurable and fascinating in equal measures!"

"To put it simply, this story is - Boy meets girl. Period. Boy meets girl. Period. And boy meets girl. Period..."

"There is a high probability that all three stories will not appeal to everybody. You may connect with one or two of them but it is unlikely that you will connect with all three. This is what holds back the film from being 'highly recommended' and puts it in the category of 'one time watch'. However, it is a not a bad one time watch at all."

"What's the point of telling three different love stories if you plan to give them a similar finish off? The whole exercise seems plain cosmetic. But till the point the make-up doesn't wear off, Teri Meri Kahaani is a far better film than I came to see."

"Teri Meri Kahaani is pretty much like the loves of the film's male protagonist – it pours out all it has. But what it has simply isn't enough."

"The foot tapping songs such as "Mukhtasar", "Uff" and "Humse Pyaar Karle Tu" are well-written, melodiously sung and deftly choreographed. All in all, 'Teri Meri kahaani' is not Kunal Kohli's best work but still is a light watch sans any vulgarity."

"According to me, the one actress to benefit from this will be Prachi Desai. Watch her in her Asha Parekh get-up. Absolutely charming."
