Humor and border tension is not something which is concocted quite often and hence the premise is interesting, but alas, the script doesn’t have a great deal of fire power. Sure, there are some funny scenes but it could have delivered the knock out punch, which it doesn’t.

In hindsight, the intention and the much-needed message behind this project is praiseworthy but the execution meanders way too much. Even if it’s a fun one-time watch, a slightly tighter hold on reality and a lot better storyline would have done the magic. If only everything was fair in war and cinema as well.

War Chhod Na Yaar succeeds in treating a grim subject with a light hand. Sharman Joshi and Javed Jaffrey are in good form, but the script loses steam well before the finish line. I’m going with two-and-a-half out of five. It’s not extraordinary, but it’s got some clever ideas.

Faraz Haider’s War Chhod Na Yaar is a treat of film that manages to evoke moments of ecstatic delight with its simplistic take on the horrific brutality of war which pointlessly creates havoc in the lives of people. The film could have gone massively wrong but the good part about this flick is, it convinces you about its premise entertainingly. I am going with a 3/5 for this film that flaunts fun and wit without a hint of crudeness that has lately become synonymous with funny! Recommending you catch film at the theaters and have a pleasant time.

This film gives a nimble twinkle-eyed satirical slant to the scourge of war. Warm and well-packaged with intelligent performances, War Chodd Na Yaar flounders when it abandons the human aspect to get into the nuclear zone.

…the theme, fronted by the two lead actors, had the potential to be a zinger.

An earnest attempt, the film fails to sustain our interest in a weak second half.

The first half of War Chhod Na Yaar has the pitch-perfect tone of a war comedy with some real gems that bind the narrative….All said and done though, this is a start. Hope India’s second war comedy will stick to the brief.

Technically, the film scores high marks. A lot of it is shot in the dark, always tricky.

The events seem way too convenient, implausible and far-fetched for one’s liking, given the sensitivity of the situation. We understand it’s a comedy and so the wishful thinking, but a little authenticity would have helped. Also, why the cliches? Making media and politicians the butt of all jokes has been done to death.

I only wish the material had lived up to its potential.

WAR CHHOD NA YAAR is an interesting idea, coupled with noble intentions, but is treated amateurishly.

Although War Chhod Na Yaar has stayed low in the promotions, the director has done a decent job. It deserves appreciation for freshness. We think you can go for it as you will see the Kargil war from a new lens.
