Gori Tere Pyaar Mein is a 2013 Indian romantic comedy film written and directed by Punit Malhotra. Synopsis - You may not always make the right decision in your life. By the time you realize it, the damage has already been done. But, sometimes it is never too late to change those wrong decisions into right ones. But, are you willing to do what it takes to turn it around?

Critic Consensus

Critical reception for 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein' is predominantly negative to mixed, with most reviewers finding it a lightweight, forgettable romantic comedy that fails to deliver on its genre's basic requirements. The most consistent praise across reviews centers on the lead performances, particularly Kareena Kapoor's energy and the on-screen chemistry between Kareena and Imran Khan. Critics most commonly faulted the screenplay, pointing to a disjointed two-part structure, an absence of genuine humor for a purported rom-com, and a second half that several reviewers found tonally mismatched with the first. A minority of critics considered it an acceptable one-time, breezy watch for genre enthusiasts, but the broader consensus deems it a weak and dispensable effort.

"...is fun as long as it sticks to the formula. The best thing about Gori Tere Pyaar Mein! is Imran who maintains an easy charm, even when he's adjusting to gobar and garibi."

"We'd have cared more about this mismatched couple had the makers invested in a sharper script. It's as enjoyable as drinking a cup of tea that's been left out in the cold."

"Let's just say you should be grateful Karan Johar doesn't see an India beyond the metros more often. For when a Johar production heads to a village, as 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein' does, it is the sort of village where people dressed in tie and dyes hang around to fawn over the city slicks who will deliver them from a collector."

"This isn't the most rousing romance (second-half lacks 'rom'), but has its feel-good moments. Chew it up with some 'Chingam' and a cute date."

"...is a charming and refreshing coming of age film plus rom-com rolled into those 2.25 hours. The film maintains the right balance between amusement, hilarity and engaging moments. Recommended!"

"...is a clean, light hearted and fun film but don't go to watch it keeping your expectations too high. If you are sucker for Rom-Coms, especially the Karan Johar kinds, and if you have not watched a film in a long while, then chances are you might enjoy it."

"While the first half is cheerful and breezy, in direct contrast the second half is grounded and purposeful. The climax disappoints a bit as the screenplay loses its steam and makes it all too simplistic, but even then watch this film because it attempts to talk about things that matter."

"It isn't flawless but it is immensely watchable. The film's positives easily topples its negatives which is why I recommend you to watch this. Kareena-Imran are one unconventionally fantastic on screen pair who make sure GTPM is a wonderful experience for you. If you thought Ayan Mukherji was Karan Johar's true protege, Punit Malhotra has upped his rank by emerging as a competitor."

"This is Punit's second attempt at a rom-com and he gets a few things right and a few wrong, making Gori Tere Pyaar Mein an average entertainer."

"Gori Tere Pyaar Mein is essentially two different films separated by an intermission, with a few, weak common threads between the two. It is a case of shoddy editing, writing and direction. Its saving grace is that it is a love story and the second half will manage to melt your heart, if only slightly. It's the classic opposites attract story and hey, if you're into that kind of thing, this might be your kind of film."

"Gori Tere Pyaar Mein! is a good, light-hearted, one time watch. It's breezy and fun for most part."

"With severely cliched characters, a glaring lack of humour for a rom-com, and a muddled love story that does not hold your interest, the only upside to the film is Kareena Kapoor's crackerjack performance."

"It is left to Kareena to salvage the show, which she does to an extent. In the end, the burden of a boring script is too overwhelming for her to leave an impact. Tooh hoots - sorry, two stars - for all of it, what else."

"Alas, nothing portrayed in the film is too deep for anyone - not the characters in the film, not the audience. And here's the plight of GTPM - without a doubt every single person associated with the film is smarter than the film itself. It's a classic Bollywood vice: talking down to the audience, not giving them enough credit, assuming you're the intelligent one."

"All in all, the story is weak. Direction is poor too. Had Puneet stuck to a different kind of film perhaps, one that catered more to generation Z's rich tastes, then that film would've definitely fared better.Watch the movie if you have to, if you like to watch big stars on the big screen. For the rest, skipping this movie would be a wise decision."

"...is not even a slapstick comedy film that Bollywood filmmakers are churning out every alternate week. At least those films are paisa vassol, but in this film not only does the story take a backseat, but the humour element is also missing. Punit Malhotra, who was an assistant director in Dharma productions' films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie and Kal Ho Naa Ho, hasn't learnt anything from his last flop film I Hate Luv Storys."

"Romcoms like GORI TERE PYAR MEIN go for direct DVD/home video release these days in Hollywood. They are not worth the big marketing spend needed to get your film out and noticed in the crowded market place. This one has got a wide release thanks to Dharma Productions' preeminent position in the industry. It is not a significant film and achieves nothing worthwhile cinematically and on various other parameters. It's a wasted effort."

"Do not to waste your money on this movie. You are better off donating that amount for a noble cause. At least, it'd be more meaningful than Kareena's frivolous social efforts."

"Repetitive and boring, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein manages the feat of making the audience completely lose interest in the couple at the heart of the film. The thoroughly forgettable songs don't help the film's cause. Before interval, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein is about falling out of love. After the interval, it's about breathing in a bit of Gujarat and building a bridge. There are few moments of laughter and no love."

Komal Nahta· KomalsReview
"...has an interesting first half but the post-interval portion, to a large extent, mars the impact because it does not go well with the first part. It has hardly anything for the single-screen cinema audience because the humour is more class-appealing. At the box-office, it will not be able to do much. If it still manages to sail safe, it will be because of recoveries from sale of satellite and audio rights. Its performance Overseas will be quite alright."

Rachit Gupta· Filmfare
"Films like GTPM are best enjoyed without the expectation of cinematic excellence. Nine out of ten developments in the narrative bypass logic. There are songs nineteen to the dozen. Great actors like Anupam Kher feature in run-of-the-mill funny bad guy roles. You might even be cheeky and say this movie is a frivolous little romance with the idea of filmmaking. But the bottom line is that it works. And you don't need reasons to smile."
