• Selected to play in the prestigious Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes film festival in 2012, it’s an unconventional watch, yes, but it’s also refreshing to see a different kind of Indian cinema make its place in the world.

I recommend that you see Miss Lovely. Yes, it is an acquired taste. But Ashim Ahluwalia’s distinct and intriguing voice is one more sign of how fundamentally and excitingly the Hindi film topography is changing.

  • While gaudily commercial films like R… Rajkumar lies on one end of the spectrum, Miss Lovely lies far on the other extreme and too much of anything is never a good thing.

  • For filmgoers who love cinema that pushes and prods them into new directions, no matter how baffling, Miss Lovely is bound to be a memorable treat.

    Strongly recommended.

The plot unfolds at a lethargic pace, with long-drawn scenes filled in with few dialogues. Some crucial scenes lack the emotional depth and connect you’d expect, inhibiting us from empathising with the protagonists. Nawazuddin shines brilliantly even in the smoky shadows of this sexploitative world, Niharika and Anil play their parts well. The film is stylishly sleazy, that’s what works for it. Watch it for a retro-ride into the naked innards of a soft-porn world and its bared bosoms.

  • …is heartfelt , entertaining and technically superb. Watch it for its performances and a sneak peek into the dark abyss of the smut films of the 80’s.

  • Films like Miss Lovely are a diminishing species. Brimming with an extravagant concept, the film is made with poise as it captures the dark world of sleaze and horror. I for one found myself with a racing heart and heart in my throat by the end of the film and it takes me quite a cinematic momentum to push to that extent. Ornately shot, fabulously performed and intelligently thought.

MISS LOVELY is worth a watch for its taut screenplay, fine performances and the detailing that has gone into recreating the bygone era. At the same time, it caters more to aficionados of meaningful cinema!

Nawazuddin Siddique has already carved a niche for himself and here, he has added so much more to his character than perhaps what the screenplay suggested.

For those who like discerning cinema, Miss Lovely beckons you to the theatre.

  • Every character has a dead conscience and goes through the motions of life.

If you truly love cinema and want to experience something out of the ordinary, then MISS LOVELY is for you.

  • The pace of the film could have been faster though; but then again, it’s not a major complaint. Watch this film only if you are brave enough to dive into the ‘dirty’ pool. If you are lucky, you might shed a layer of ‘sophistication’ and feel liberated.

Those who are attuned to watch watch world cinema and those who have an affinity for the pulp cinema of that kind, are prone to like the movie. For the rest, can’t say as Miss Lovely is a courageous and secured attempt to bring forward a story in highly stylized fashion.

  • That’s the root there, the connect – which isn’t there. Certainly a downer, for a film that wants you to experience, rather than just superficially know. Yet, you cannot take away from the fact, that it is brave indeed to make a film like Miss Lovely.

  • It’s a sure-footed, even if slightly indulgent, debut – one that establishes an individual style that makes Ahluwalia’s future as a filmmaker an exciting prospect.
