Running Shaadi

While there may not be much of a Shaadi, there's definitely a lot of fun running around that you may want to check out.

With so many serious and hard-hitting films that have come up recently, this would be a light hearted comedy to have a relaxed weekend. Apart from that, wouldn't really recommend it.

Running Shaadi could've really been a different comedy. It had the raw potential of a unique and innovative film. But the lackof focussed direction leaves it high and dry.

Running Shaadi could have made for a good short film instead. Stretching the runtime to 114 minutes doesn't serve the purpose. Nevertheless, it still makes up a partly entertaining watch.

...what keeps you invested in the film are the principal players. Their chemistry and camaraderie is worth soaking in. Director Amit Roy has also done a standout job for showcasing the middle-class milieu of Punjab and Bihar. The narrow lanes that dot the small towns are shown with warts and all. But it's disappointing that the story couldn't sustain the momentum and the promise that it showed initially.

Running Shaadi is a breezy entertainer in parts. Taapsee does a good job as the spunky girl. Those with a taste for romantic films with a hint of comedy will enjoy it.

Ram Bharose from Patna works for a clothing store in Amritsar and is in love with the boss' daughter Nimmi. Insulted at her birthday party, he quits and begins a startup with his geeky Sardar friend 'Running Shaadi' for runaway couples. Everything works fine until Nimmi decides she want to run away. With Ram Bharose. The supporting cast is stellar, the situations and dialogue are funny, but the lead cast is pathetic. And that makes you wish the film weren't that long.

Technically, Roy's debut attempt is sound. Anupam Roy, Abhishek-Akshay & Zeb's music, if not outstanding is soothing. The cinematography and editing is on point. Chaotic is how we would describe the film in one word with a bit of humour here and there. Its not an out and out comedy and can be watched at the comfort of your house when it plays on TV, but if you are a couple in love and are thinking of eloping to cinema halls, this one is a good time pass.

Going by the plot and theme RUNNING SHAADI could have been a humourous take on the wedding and love scenes in India and the expose of the dangers of social media and pros and cons of marriage portals but it ends up as a waste opportunity.

Director Amit Roy may have unnecessarily stretched the film to 114 minutes. Running Shaadi has its moments, but they are too few to keep you engrossed.

Running Shaadi with the tackily beeped out dot.com gets 1 star, while Brijendra Kala (who plays Sadh's maternal uncle) and Jha add half a star more.

Running Shaadi would be a great short story, or a short film. As a full length feature, it is entertaining only in parts.

The performance of the leading pair doesn't impress either. Sadh has a perpetual scowl on his face, and Pannu's attempt at playing the gregarious Punjabi girl falls flat. This "shaadi" should have never happened.

There's too much of everything in Running Shaadi, whose casual humour would have worked better with a crisper and more focused running time. The idea of wedding organisers balking at the prospect of their own nuptials has been tackled with both greater economy and expansiveness in the past. By running in two directions, the movie ends up nowhere.
