Despite its flaws, though, Mary Kom is a worthy attempt. The film has sincerity and has been crafted with care. Apart from Mary herself, it gives us a terrific male role model — Onler, who encouraged Mary to return to boxing while he looked after their twin sons. Has anyone given that man a medal?

  • Exquisite work from director Omung Kumar, who seems to have found his groove with his very first movie.
Only time will tell if the movie will be a hit or a flop but Priyanka has surely emerged as a better boxer.

…the main reason why Mary Kom appeals is because it doesn’t just give you a ringside view of boxing; it leaves you rooting for our sportsmen who have put India on the world map.

What Mary Kom lacks in craft makes up for in soul…

  • MARY KOM is definitely worth a watch. The icing on the cake is that the film has been made tax free, something that should help the film in pulling the audiences to the theatres, besides the word of mouth. Go for it.

All the blemishes apart Mary Kom is still an exceptional story of an underdog who achieved what she set out to and for that, it is worth a watch.

  • There are certain ‘sugar free’ and ‘iodex’ moments which punch huge holes in the screenplay. Producers will have to be wary of such impediments. If you believe in the subject, produce it with passion; don’t make a joke of it by making it an opportunity to promote products.

I doff my hat to Mary Kom the boxer; she deserves every bit of recognition coming her way.

On the whole Omung’s debut as a biopic was a quite the challenging task but he handles the genre reasonably well. As with any biopic great casting means half the job may just be done and in this case getting Priyanka right is what made the film work.

  • All this film needed was a bit more guts to chart its own path with Mary Kom herself as an inspiration. But sadly, they chose to play to the gallery instead. Mary and Priyanka deserved a better film.

Mary Kom is a motivational masterpiece. From first frame to last it grips your senses and irrigates the parched corridors of your heart like very few bio-pics in recent times. Debutant director Omang Kumarweaves seamlessly in and out of Ms Kom’s remarkable life creating a work that is as dramatic as Mehboob’s Mother India and as inspiring as Attenborough’s Gandhi.

Priyanka Chopra’s powerhouse performance knocks the breath out of our solar plexus .She yet again proves herself the best actress of her generation.

Don’t expect realistic cinema here. It’s a commercial film, and there are many differences between what has been shown about Mary Kom’s life and what actually happened. Watch it for Priyanka Chopra.

  • Sometimes we watch films to feel inspired, since there is such little in our lives that make us feel the same way. There is enough exhilarating drama in Mary’s life. I’m glad the filmmakers kind of play it straight. The story of Magnificient Mary is still being told. She is currently aiming for gold in the next Olympics. Her story so far should certainly be watched!

You can go back home basking in pride knowing about ‘Magnificient’ Mary and only wish the country would be more supportive to these superstars who are fighting against all odds, to make India proud.

Omung Kumar’s Mary Kom resonates the story of a true champion – Mary Kom. Watch the film to know more about the world champion. Without any iota of doubt ‘Mary Kom’ is Priyanka Chopra’s best act ever, her exceptional act in the movie does more than make you think about boxing as a sport and women as sports person, it makes you see it to believe them and respect them.

Box your way to the nearest theatre if you have to because PC has won our gold medal for this one!

  • The film is about the triumph of a person who makes it against all odds. Mary Kom is an important film that’s hugely inspiring. But more importantly, it’s also great fun to watch. Book your tickets, I say!

  • Mary Kom plays out as a simple, unpretentious tale that picks up and dramatises important incidents from the champion’s life. The frenzy and excitement of a Raging Bull or Million Dollar Baby may not be there. However, the essential message speaks out loud.

  • Mary Kom may not be the most brilliantly designed movie but it has its heart at the right place. It may not entertain you in the most exciting or thrilling way, but the earnest performances from the actors and the sincerity shown by director Omang Kumar with his craft of direction and storytelling definitely calls for a deserving round of applause.

  • Mary Kom is an inspirational biopic from the first frame till the end. Omung Kumar has no doubt weaved the story so well that every person who watches this film will for sure get inspired.
Priyanka Chopra’s masterclass performance goes without saying. Overall this awe strucking journey of MC Kom is all about getting inspired. There are no negatives which can be pointed out as a negative.
