The film proceeds at a very slow pace and fails to entertain the audience. There are unnecessary twists and turns that make the audience wonder where the plot is going. The director probably tried to play safe with the old idea of a young couple eloping in love but failed to create on-screen chemistry.

One dialogue from the film sums it up aptly for us: “yaar ye toh epic fail hogaya!” Watch it only if your life depends on it.

As you go through this 140 plus minutes of love saga, which gets increasingly irritating, you stop caring if they are together or not, because going by the storyline, it seemed like they didn’t care either.

Lekar Hum Deewana Dil might appeal to the college going audience. It clearly does not have appeal enough to become popular with anyone else. Arif Ali will have to do much more than this to actually be seen as a serious filmmaker, while people will continue to look at him merely as Imtiaz Ali’s brother.

At two hours and twenty minutes, this film is a drag. Plan your own road trip this weekend instead.

Despite having promising faces as its lead, the film ends up delivering lower than expectations because of a weak script.

One cannot predict how the movie fares at the Box Office, but it is not a movie worth wasting money on as neither the storyline not the characters are entertaining. But watch the movie only if you have no other choice left this weekend.

…isn’t even a satisfying rom-com about squabbling lovers. The humor is consistently juvenile, the climax so obvious you’ve guessed it long before it arrives, and the dialogue phoney despite being peppered with modern-day slang. You’ll be bored out of your mind.

Was this meant to be a political awakening for two city-bred well-off ignorant-about-real-India young people? It would have been terrific if the plot had known what to make of it. But this is a story which ricochets from one awful point to another, involving the `ladka’ and `ladki’’s parents and extended families, and the `ladka’ and `ladki’ hurling themselves at each other’s throats, before getting back to more tender body parts.

The film has some feel-good moments and the minty breath of young love, though nothing much to chew on.

Director Arif Ali, the brother of Imtiaz Ali fails to entertain through this stale formula with appalling direction.

Lekar Hum Deewana Dil would have done much better for itself had it tried to find its original voice, instead of pandering to a vague idea of what sells when it comes to love stories.

Because who has ever cracked the code for that?

Deeksha Seth shows some spark, but it requires a better film than this to judge her. Both she and Armaan are undone by some poor writing and direction, and that is indeed unfortunate. While all’s well that end’s well for their characters, we would be hard pressed to say the same for the film itself.

Though the storyline of Lekar Hum Deewana Dil is clichéd, watching it over the weekend won’t hurt.

Since its protagonists are largely loathsome in their self serving attitude, this is not an easy film to like . But ultimately it is a satisfying blithe and breezy slice-of-life experience with dialogues and scenes that ring true most of the time. The film marks the confident debut of its lead pair and director.

In short, LHDD is Love Aaj Kal, Jab photographer Met Rockstar, and set out on a Highway, landing in a Cocktail of sorts. Watch it only if you’ve exhausted all other movie options this week.

Lekar Hum Deewana Dil is a film best enjoyed with someone special. You might find yourself relating to more than just a few of the incidents in the film. Though it’s certainly not a film worth writing home about, the film might make for a good one-time watch on a lazy Sunday.

Debutant director Arif Ali’s Lekar Hum Deewana Dil is a sweet film that borrows the elopement theory from evergreen 70s’-80s’ romances like Bobby, Love Story and Betaab. It even has shades of Arif’s older brother Imtiaz’s Jab We Met and Highway. But this has a mint-crisp feel with its .com lingo. The lack of melodrama, for most part of the movie, is also refreshing.

…has several wonderful moments and genuine sparks that stay with you. The film should appeal to its target audience — the youth.
