Despite three likeable actors in principal roles, ‘Bewakoofiyaan’ feels lightweight instead of lighthearted. Asthana directs with an easy hand, but she’s saddled with a dead duck of a script that simply can’t be saved.

…spends most of its time trying to showcase a slew of brands, get us to smile at the antics of the father of the bride which are singularly unfunny, and to convince us that its leading lady can helm an entire film.

Recession and employment are real issues for people who have lived through that stage of uncertainty and insecurity. It’s the flippant execution of a real problem that just doesn’t work in ‘Bewakoofiyaan’.

Bewakoofiyaan is one of those films that isn’t actively offensive or actively engaging. It just goes on, in a bland manner, until we hit happily ever after. Honestly, it’s going to take a better script than this to make me summon emotion for out of work yuppies.

The film has no major flaws but it doesn’t have many great moments either. And the end result is as empty as Mohit’s bank balance.

It never quite establishes its chief motive. Instead Asthana’s tentative approach struggles to interrelate the pertinent issues, lend it dimensions and wisdom, resorting to simplistic conclusions when it cannot find the balance.

…has its khoobiyaan but mostly it has majbooriyaan where the story is concerned. It tells you not to overspend. Yet the script is not as ‘penny wise’, gettit?

Bewakoofiyaan had the opportunity to be smarter and funnier, unfortunately it plays it too safe to rise above the ordinary.

What you see on the hoardings and trailers is what you get in Bewakoofiyaan. There is nothing more to it.
Wait for the DVD of this film because at the theatres this won’t be worth the money.

…a well crafted film that misses the rightful rendering. A meandering screenplay turns it bland and messy but for Rishi Kapoor’s catchy role it is worth giving a shot to. For me it was the dilemmas of the film’s protagonist and him losing his edginess and confidence due to the sudden loss of job amidst downsizing was the real story. Channelized focus on that and here could have been a breathtaking film. Bewakoofiyaan scores notches below its aim but is definitely recommended for a one time passable watch.

Watch the movie if you’re pre-teen and believe in the koochie-koo kind of love.

Sadly, even the combined acting efforts of Khurrana and Kapoor are not able to lift this story above the very ordinary. As for Sonam, she fails to impress.

It would be a bewkoofi to spend your money on this one in a theatre. On TV, you could give it a try but just for that little crackling nok-jhok between Khurrana and Kapoor.

A romantic-comedy, the unfortunately titled Bewakoofiyaan offers a jaded romance and few laughs. Asthana’s debut, Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge, had endearing characters, sizeable humour quotient and a decent soundtrack. All are missing in Bewakoofiyaan.

…is a film that doesn’t sizzle and doesn’t completely fizzle either. It is harmless but certainly insipid and whatever happens in it, you can see it coming from furlongs. The otherwise reliable Habib Faisal has written a script which is pretty much on auto pilot mode without any surprising deviations.

The worst thing about this film is its story (Habib Faisal). It seems like some sequences have been put together hurriedly to just keep the story going and create some drama. This plain vanilla film is easily forgettable.

…is a typically clichéd love story. Despite a good star cast it is at most a one time watch.

The film could have been a modern rom-com dealing with issues of the recession, over-bearing parents, changing love equations etcetera. But what you get are good-looking actors, a few immersing moments, and an amusing sitcom episode at best.

With very little going for it in the music and other technical departments then, Bewakoofiyaan feels like listening to a friend’s woes about their relationship – with empathy and love; but you want them to kiss and patch up, already. So, that you can move on too.

Of the many things Bewakoofiyaan struggles to say in its two hours-long runtime, one stands out more than the others – the multiplex ticket costs a bomb nowadays. It would be prudent, then, to stay away.

Bewakoofiyaan isn’t Nupur Asthana’s best effort (out of two), but I’m still going to look forward to her next. All she needs is an ambitious screenplay and a voice—perhaps her own?
