Anyway, as far as addressing mental illnesses goes, Judgementall Hai Kya doesn’t do any more harm than already done by Hindi movies, even if it doesn’t aim at respecting the affected individuals’ fate either. For that, I am grateful. Small mercies. In fact, the social cause is not on its priority list, and it works in the film’s favour. It aims to be a thriller and thrill it does not unless you call 2-inch long, flying cockroaches appearing on-screen thrilling.

Whether or not you’re easily drawn to this alternate world (let alone its conclusion), what can’t be denied is how brilliantly Kanika Dhillon carves out a fine suspense-thriller.

Rear Window (1954) by Hitchcock made the unreliable narrator narrative popular in Hollywood. Thanks to films like Gone Girl and Girl On A Train, it’s getting a resurgence in the West. In Bollywood, the recent Badla gave us an example of how twisted such narratives can be. Judgementall Hai Kya is carrying the torch forward. It’s another female centric film that leads you across numerous red herrings before finally reaching the denouement. 

Prakash Kovelamudi’s Bollywood debut is worth all the adulation and it goes without saying that Kangana and Rajkummar’s performance has truly made the film that it has turned out to be. Go for it folks and let yourself immerse in never-seen-before suspense and horror drama. 

Watch it for its uniqueness, and the edge-of-seat thrill. Also, here is Kangana in her most weird avatar till date. 

Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao already sit on a commendable body of work but JudgeMentall Hai Kya has and will reserve a special place in their filmography. Watch it for their explosive screen presence and counter performance. We are going with 4 stars.

This isn’t a normal movie. From its treatment to the narrative, everything screams madness. On a brighter side, the story is strong enough to back the wacky side of it. Kangana Ranaut is definitely the queen, but this deck of cards have multiple aces to offer.

What is commendable is that Judgementall Hai Kya delivers the message without turning preachy or self-conscious. The breezy flow of the narrative, which isn’t broken until parts of the second half begin to seem a tad indulgent, ensures that we are invested in the plight of the characters all the way through.

Judgementall Hai Kya has its flaws. The film’s novelty factor, however, is simply too tempting to gloss over. Don’t be too judgemental about its flaws, and you might just love this one.

Prakash Kovelamudi deserves applause for pushing the envelope with a quirky thriller that goes beyond the basic realms of a whodunnit, and makes people think and absorb. It treads into a zone Bollywood rarely ventures into. Leave your judgements at home and watch this film.

Judgemental Hai Kya is a hugely satisfying, snappy thriller with its 1 hour and 56 minutes running time. Entering Bobby and Keshav’s muddled heads is a risk worth taking.

Neither whodunit or even whydunit, Judgementall Hai Kya is never quite able to match its ambitions. Buried somewhere in the rubble is the ghost of a movie about why madness is sometimes the only sane response to violence.

This is the kind of movie which will sharply divide audiences. And that’s as it should be. Once I began seeing it as the murmurings of a different mind, I bought it as a caper, as burlesque, where nothing is as it is. I had problems with some of it, but I really liked the rest of it.

Watch this film. As evidenced by a man Bobby sees carrying homilies on placards on a street corner, Judgementall Hai Kya knows the difference between accepting and determining something. It is a film about malicious misdirection, and the validity of our narratives — especially those labelled incorrect. It’s okay to jump at a cockroach even if you’re the only one who sees it. From the right angle, a bug is a feature.

Judgementall Hai Kya dips and soars. Like Bobby, the film can be exhausting. But like her, it’s also a true blue original. And you should give it a shot.
